Licorice Candy -
Aromas and Flavors of Wine

Licorice is known to most as a candy! There is usually black and red licorice, in the shape of a twisted straw. Actually, licorice is a herb that's been used since the days of the Egyptians and Greeks. It was used to help with coughs and other health ailments.

Licorice as a candy can be found in just about any store.

The Wines with Licorice Flavor

Most wines with licorice flavor in them come from Italy. Amarone is made from the Corvina Veronese, Rondinella and Molinara grapes. The grapes are dried in the sun before they are made into wine. Valpolicella is made from the same grapes and is a fruity, light wine.

There's also Barolo, a complex red from the Piedmont area.
