Melon Fruit -
Aromas and Flavors of Wine

Melons originally come from the middle east - somewhere arond Persia. They soon spread to Egypt and India. The Chinese became quite fond of the melon, as did the English. Over the years, melons were bred to have many different types - cantelope, honeydew, and muskmelons. If you live in the US, the fruit you call a "cantelope" is really a muskmelon. Real cantelopes have a hard rind with warts. The muskmelon has a webbed outer rind with an orange inside.

The Wines with Melon Flavor

Chardonnay often has a melon flavor, as does Pinot Gris. Rieslings from California tend to have a melon aspect to them. Icewine is a sweet dessert wine that features melon.
