Champagne Top 5 Listings
ShopWine UK Selections

At ShopWine UK, Champagne is in high demand as people prepare for Dec 31st! Here are the bottles they are recommending. Prices are of course given in pounds!

1. Laurenti Pere et Fils, Grande Cuvee, Brut NV
A very elegant and stylish Champagne with a delicious yeasty biscuity palate. The blend is Pinot Noir dominated which give the fullness while the Chardonnay provides the elegant finish and finesse. £16.75

2. Ayala, Chateau D'Ay, Brut NV
Lightness and delicacy are the trademarks of this old established House whose wine appeals to those who prefer a less heavy style of Champagne. The quality and value for money offered is hard to match. £17.50

3. Lanson, Black Label, Brut NV
The number two brand in the UK. The House tradition of allowing no malolactic fermentation to take place produces a fresh, crisp and lemony style when young but this will develop more complexity with time. £20.89

4. Taittinger, Brut Vintage 1992/5
The Vintage Brut is a balanced blend of 40% Chardonnay and 40% Pinot Noir, rounded off with 20% Pinot Menuier, it is aged on its lees for 5 years. On the nose the wine is delicate, fresh and lemony. It has a slightly floral and earthy character, with aromas of spices and peach stones. On the palate, the initial impression is of a wine that is lively, balanced and full. This is still a delicate and elegant Champagne with satisfying lenght. The fine acidic structure gives it good potential for ageing and it will still improve. £31.35

5. Taittinger, Prestige Brut Rose
The 'L'addition' method is used to make this rose. To ensure consistency and quality 80% of the fruit is vinified as white wine and this is added to 20% that has been made as red wine. This is the process that gives this rose its distinctive salmon pink colour. The wine is left for 3-4 years to mature. Its aromas are fresh and lively with aromas of wild strawberries and a hint of spice. On the palate the wine is balanced. lively and smooth with good length and persistent flavours of red fruit. Overall it is a Champagne of subtle elegance and charm. £28.00
