Pasta - Red Sauce and Wine - Wine Food Pairings



What you'll find with most wine pairings is that the base material has NOTHING to do with the pairing. It all has to do with the sauce since the sauce brings most of the flavor. With pasta this is DEFINITELY true. The wine that goes with a heavy, rich red sauce won't go well with a delicate, cream sauce or a heavy garlic sauce.

The classic pairing for Italian red sauces would be chianti. You can also go with Cabernet Sauvignon or cabernet franc.
