I like your idea of heating the water over a fire!

This weekend I had my pipes under the house freeze and explode, so my water is now turned off at the main. I am thinking of not having city water at all for a while. It's kind of fun to come up with alternative ways to do things. I have a ton of rainwater to use for everything except drinking. For beverages I have my jugs that I fill at the nearby water dispenser.

Many people in the world still don't have running water anyway, so it is good to remember this kind of thing.
