Yammi is eating totaly on her own, but parents still like to feed her cage to cage once of twice a day. She is like a toddler in her cage I have a swing and some hanging toys with bells, she tries them all out. She cuddles a lot with her teddy bear, sleeps in the happy hut and squeeks a lot. She knows how to preen herself so she is stayng neat and tidy. Such fun!
Nesting in FL runs Fall-Spring. That's why so many birds come here to nest. I don't know if caged birds follow the wild birds egging sched.

I haven't seen her.
I had such a great progress with Yammi today. She will get on my finger and sit there, today I took some of my oatmeal on a spoon and she as sitting on my finger eating the oatmeal from the spoon. It was warm and smooth and I think it reminded her of the food her parents gave her. So she is quickly becoming my buddy bird, which I what I wanted and one of the reasons I kept her.

That's great Animom! smile Isn't it something that a creature only six weeks old can do all that? She (?) was born on Thanksgiving right..hence the name Yammi? It's just amazing how fast they mature...guess it's nature's way.

You should write a kids book with Yammi as the star! You could use your notes from here and add more plus cool illustrations! If Madonna can do it...so can YOU! smile

PS...not sure if you're interested but I know of a breeder in my area who does DNA sexing for real cheap...like $15. Maybe you have someone in your area who is resonable too? That is in case you want to know the sex of Yammi sooner. Is there another way to tell on lovebirds?

No not really. There is no outward difference of them. I'm going ot go where I bought Rosey and see if they will do it for free. It doesn't really matter to me. I plan on keeping it single. If I decided at some point to get another one I would for sure.

Well today i made the decision to give Yammi to the littel girl across the street from me. I had promised her 1 of Rosey's babies and to be fair to Yammi I decided to do it. Yammi needs a little girl to love and care for her as an only pet. I just have too many cats and can not have her out of the cage much and all the other birds have playmates in their cage and she was alone. Plus I have the 5 eggs (maybe more) to contend with. So I gave her Yammi cage and all the toys and things in it. Even though I know it was best for her, whaaaaa I'm going to miss her. She is going to be less then a 1/2 a football field away so I can keep an eye on her.

Oh Animom! That is SO SWEET of you! And really, really unselfish too! We know how much you bonded with Yammi and just loved her to pieces. Wow! But, now we won't get to see pictures of her anymore frown frown !!!!

Whelp, I know it's hard to give up your baby but you've just turned another human being into a bird lover....your Good Samaritan deed for the new year so far! I think it's wonderful when a person gives away something they like so much. It's all the more precious of a gift that way.

Good luck on your new little brood. And keep us posted on Yammi from time to time if you can. smile
