My uncle went there about two years ago and wasn't impressed at all, said it WAS tacky inside. Very cheap looking and really overdone.

PDM... We must be a similar age. I loved Slade too. I was madly in love with David Cassidy when I was 12 (had his near life sized poster on my wall) and David Essex.. yummo!! smile

Dave Hill of Slade lived next door to my school. He said he hadn't realised that it was a girls' school when he bought it!!
Lots of the girls would go and look at his house. I never did. For me, it just didn't seem to be the thing to do.

When I left school, I worked in the city centre and 'The Police' used to stay in the hotel opposite. We would watch them unpacking their instruments, etc, and I didn't even recognise them! It was as if I deliberately wouldn't allow myself to be star-struck - weird, really, don't know why.

(It didn't stop me thinking that the two Davids were wonderful!)

I bought Brown Eyed Girl just the other day.
American Pie is great.
And I really like Meatloaf.

Here are some of my favourite songs from the 60s and 70s:

Bits and Pieces - Dave Clarke Five
Stop, Stop, Stop - The Hollies.
Love Grows where my Rosemary goes - Edison Lighthouse
Could it be Forever? - David Cassidy
Rock On - David Essex
I'm not in Love - 10CC
What a Night (December 63) - Frankie Valli
Close to you - Carpenters
Those were the days - Mary Hopkin
Lola - Kinks
Hot Love (& Ride a White Swan) - T Rex
The Night They Drove Old Dixie down - Joan Baez
Raindrops Keep Falling on my Head - B J Thomas
Young Girl - Union Gap
Liquidator - Harry J. Allstars
Island in the Sun - Demis Roussos
(Actually, practically anything by Demis Roussos)

I also like a lot of songs from other periods, including most Elvis recordings
Whitney Houston - I will always love you
Madonna - Beautiful Stranger
Johnny Ray - I'll never Fall in Love Again
Nat King Cole - When I Fall In Love
Johnny Matthis - My Love for You

The first record I owned was 'Yes tonight, Josephine' by Johnny Ray. My Mum got it for my first birthday because I obviously liked it. It was banned shortly afterwards!
The second record I owned, was one I had for my 12th birthday: 'Sugar, Sugar', by The Archies.

I'm sure I'll think of some more

Here's a site you might like:
http://www.ukmix.org/articles/charts/

Here's their blurb:
On the 14th November 2002, the charts celebrate their golden jubilee. This feature looks back at the past 50 years of the singles chart with the attempt to find out exactly what was the biggest charting hit of all time. Throughout the 200 days leading up to the jubilee, we will look back at every year and every decade of the past 50 years looking at which are the biggest charting hits.

So what will be the biggest hit of all time, could it be Frankie Laine's "I Believe", which managed 16 weeks at the top? Could it be Frank Sinatra's "My Way" which managed over 100 weeks on the chart? Could it be Elton John's "Candle In The Wind 1997 / Something About The Way You Look Tonight", which is the best seller of all time? Maybe Elvis, or Cliff, or the Beatles? All surely must be up near the top with something, or are they? Watch this space gradually update as we go through the year.

There's a page for each year considered.
As it's UKMIX, I assume they are talking about Britain.

They have worked out that this is the all-time top 20:

1 Frank Sinatra My Way 48.19
2 Frankie Laine I Believe 41.64
3 Bill Haley and his Comets Rock Around The Clock 38.38
4 Frankie Goes To Hollywood Relax 33.91
5 Mr Acker Bilk and the Leon Young String Chorale Stranger On The Shore 31.87
6 Wet Wet Wet Love Is All Around 29.03
7 Doris Day Secret Love 28.81
8 Beatles She Loves You 28.71
9 Judy Collins Amazing Grace 28.70
10 Bryan Adams (Everything I Do) I Do It For You 28.39
11 Englebert Humperdinck Release Me 28.25
12 Queen Bohemian Rhapsody 27.61
13 David Whitfield Cara Mia 26.69
14 Jim Reeves I Love You Because 24.36
15 Elvis Presley Hound Dog 24.34
16 Paul Anka Diana 24.10
17 Frank Ifield I Remember You 23.88
18 Russ Conway Side Saddle 23.36
19 John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John You're The One That I Want 23.29
20 Boney M Rivers Of Babylon 23.15

For the top 100 (or even 1000) look here:
