Did you see the documentary, where experts were asked to review an unknown artist? It was abstract, 'modern' art. The reviewers went into raptures about it. It was the work of a genius. In fact, it was the work of a chimpanzee!

We have a very nice Seurat print up in our lounge (La Seine a Courbevoie). Is that the sort of thing you like?

There's a lovely page of pictures created by youngsters, using 'pointillism', here: http://www.waunakee.k12.wi.us/TeachWeb/wagners/pointillism.html

Thanks for the link PDM. The painting style of the aboriginals of Australia is an example of true pointillism.

Jackson Pollock wasn't actually pointillism, his style was more 'drip technique' for which he was famous. To me Blue Poles reminds me of something that should be in those 3D books where you try to find the hidden pictures.

brilliant! says a lot, doesn't it.

i don't know much of seurat's paintings, but i know he pretty much invented pointillism. i really like his 'sunday afternoon' and 'bathers' paintings. (excuse the lazy translations). i can't think of any other artists using pointillism though.

i quite like some (only some) surrealism. Rene Magritte's 'the great war' has an x factor to it (the guy in the suite with an apple in front of his face).

PDM: Not really Pointillism. You can clearly see the lines between the various color areas, and ven if they weren't there, the drawings still miss the point.

This being to dissolve the verbal and geometric information funnels that operate in the Visual Cortex. It's impossible to do pointillist art properly if your brain still sees lines everywhere.

i see where you're coming from, but to be fair;

1. those kids have done better than a few adults i've seen try.

2. actually pointillism is more specifically to do with the mixing of colours - using your eyes to mix the colours rather than your pallet.

so really, if you're creating the lines with pointilism, you can still have lines.

seurat certainly maintained a linear quality with his use of pointillism.

One of my favorite artists is Terry Redlin. His paintings are gorgeous.

His paintings do have a lot of nature, but they are definitely much more realistic that Bambi or Snow White. Many of his paintings have locations or buildings of places near his home town. I think they are beautiful.
