If you are willing to read the whole series, then you should buy it, but you will be very confused if you don't read any of the others.
I personanlly love the series, and I think you should read it laugh

I'm one of the biggest Harry Potter fans out there(im on of those millions who dressed up on the 15th and read my book in 13 hours:D), and i MUST encourage ALL of you to read it. J K ROwling is my hero, insparation, idol, watever you want to call it. Because of her, im gonna be a writer and because of the hp series im now a constant reader. If your gonna read one of the books, uve got to read them all. if ur not that excited about reading 6 books (3 books that consist of more then 400 words) then start with the third. the first two doesnt have that much important info.

And get reday for the tears. They are all very sad, i cried in the 4th, 5th, 6th, and a bit for the 3rd. Number 4, 5 and 6 tho, i cried for weeks. As you can see i have lots to say, so im just gonna stop now. enyways........READ THE BOOKS, they are awesome.

I think JK Rowlings is a very talented woman and when I read back into her personal life it's amazing how well she's done. I say good on her because I'm another fan of her books too (and her movies).

I've written a few stories, about 200 pages in all and one day might do something about having them printed, if they're good enough that is.

You really need to start at the beginning of the series otherwise you'll need a lot of gaps filled in. If you don't have the time to read them all, why not get out the movies and then read the books from then on.

if you're going to watch the movies and then read number 4 to 6. DONT. there is so much info left out from the third movie, so much important info about Pettigrew, and sirius, and james and lupin. So u must read number 3.

I have to admit to a little 'fudging it' here. I saw the first three before reading them as time just wasn't an option.

I'm afraid my problem is that when I do tend to pick up a book to read, it's usually last thing at night and I end up falling asleep.

There's just so many wonderful books out there I'd love to read but there's just not enough hours in the day, hence watching the movie from time to time if it's available.

Hi Pacey Lover - if you want to be an author, go for it! Good luck!

Nikkums, same to you!
Have you sent your stories to any magazines, or anywhere?

I wrote a children's Christmas story that I sent off to a couple of publishers - to no avail. My children liked it though, so it was worth writing.

I also wrote a complete Mills & Boon romatic novel. I was very pleased with it and they said that the writing was fine but that it wasn't 'upbeat enough'. Thinking about it, that didn't really make sense to me - I think that they actually meant that it wasn't 'racy enough'!

Somsuj--

You should definately read all the HP books in order--even if you have seen the movies--there are things in the books that do not make it into the movies. I actually stumbled across the 3rd book 1st and had to go back--I am glad I did because my sister wasn't letting her daughter read them--When she found out I was reading them she relented. Now my niece and I are on pins and needles waiting for each new installment.

PDM--good for you--if your kids liked the book that is what really counts. Mills and Boon (in the US the brand name is Harlequin) but they are the same books--seems to go up and down on the racy issue--there are a few of thier authors who wrote for years with no race at all--but I think they kept them going because the authors had a good following. They are fun to read for pure escapeism.

It would be really hard to pick a favorite book--I used to read alot (I don't seem to have as much time now)--there are some books I will pick up and re-read so I guess those would qualify as favorites--Gone with the Wind--would probably top that list--Watership Down, Wind in the Willows, are right up there as well.
