I just finished reading an article on Marilyn's death (this month's Playboy mag...which also has a great interview with Pacino and another good read on Super Bowl tix bookies.) I'm not an expert (although I admit to being a Forensic Files junkie), there were a few points that the article brought up that really make me wonder how it could have been classified as an "apparent suicide" and not further investigated as a murder. Though this might be fun to discuss...as I'm sure everyone has an opinion on theory. Feel free to add your thoughts: 1) Her house was completely bugged, under 24/7 surveillance from all sorts of people (FBI, CIA, Hoffa, etc.) So how could no one have heard, or even better, had a tape of what happened that night? 2) The autopsy report was compromised, with a majority of the substances reported "missing"...including that from her stomach (her death, they say, was caused from taking 30-40 pills...but how could that be confirmed without proper testing?) 3) She was planning to re-marry Joe DiMaggio (according to his niece), so the idea of killing herself (and not really leaving a note, or calling him) doesn’t seem to really make sense to me. Uh huh, sure! ;) I always did think it strange that Marilyn died as she did and my thoughts tend to drift toward the mob as being her killer because of all the rukus going on in those days concerning organized crime. I knew she had an affair with John F. Kennedy and Bobby too. Here's some excerpts from Court TV.com on a theory of who could have killed her and why. "Momo, (mobster Sam Giancana) heard Bobby (Kennedy) on tape distinctly insisting to the FBI that "that dago Sam Giancana" be put away for life. Eager to strike back, Momo could not, unfortunately, use the powerhouse footage he had of Jack’s "indiscretions." The CIA vetoed this idea since the material had been obtained illegally and could backfire against their user. So, according to Chuck Giancana's oft-startling revelations in Double Cross, Momo found another way. His object was still to destroy the Kennedy’s good-boy Roman Catholic image. (Bobby had just been named "Family Man of the Year" by a national magazine.) The trysts Momo had been having with movie star Marilyn Monroe had been cooling since he began seeing more and more of Phyllis McGuire. But, they had remained friends and he knew she was sharing her time with other men, including both the married Kennedy brothers. She had recently confessed to him that she had fallen in love with Bobby. Through his CIA informants who had bugged Marilyn’s phone, Momo learned that Bobby was to be in California on August 4, 1962, and had arranged a rendezvous at Marilyn’s house for that evening. The plan that ensued was diabolical. Momo sent his two most-trusted hit men, "Needles" Gianola and "Mugsy" Tortorella, to case Marilyn’s house and, after Bobby departed, to make their move. According to the theory put forth in the book, the executioners would kill the star and make her death look like suicide. Naturally, Momo figured, the Attorney General would be dragged into the case when police discovered the love letters from Bobby that Momo knew she kept; besides this, Marilyn’s housekeeper always answered the door when anyone visited and would be sure under police scrutiny to admit that Kennedy had been there moments before she died. Momo’s press friends were put on alert; they were ordered to make the most of the "tragic, unrequited love affair that sent poor Marilyn racing for the bottle of barbiturates". August 4...waiting paid off. Bobby arrived at Marilyn’s Brentwood, mansion early evening, let in by the housekeeper. He left Marilyn around midnight. Waiting for her maid to retire, which was soon thereafter, the two killers stole into Marilyn’s bedroom. There, Chuck Giancana insists, they overcame her and inserted a Nembutal suppository into her anus. It was not the first time the device was used; it had eliminated other celebrities who had, when found dead, been written off as suicides. It was untraceable and the drug worked quickly, seeping its poison into the blood stream, appearing as if she had overdosed. Before they left the house, Gianola opened a bottle of pills, poured most of them into his pocket, and sprinkled a few beside her on the bed along with the empty bottle. The housekeeper discovered Marilyn’s corpse the following morning. Momo envisioned the headlines: MARILYN MONROE FOUND DEAD; THE KENNEDYS IMPLICATED. But, he would be disappointed. When the news service splashed the news of the untimely death the following morning, the Kennedys pulled out all stops to censure investigation and keep newspaper reporters at bay. FBI agents, on Presidential instruction, removed anything accusatory from the Monroe home. When the coroner pronounced his hearing later in the day he expediently ruled, "Probable suicide". Oh...and the housekeeper said nothing. Welcome to the forum mooser745 :)

It was Bert. Bert had just discovered that Ernie was enamoured with MM and was frantic with insane jealousy. well that's how Big Bird told it at the inquest of Oscars unseemly demise, and the wicked web of intrigue that ensued there.

Honestly

Well Mark, that is an interesting theory. Perhaps we should forward it onto the LA police.

Frankly, my second theory is that Vince did it. If it wasn't Momo, then it had to be Vince. They found his nose print on her window.

There are alot of discrepancies in the accounts of Marilyn's death--my personal theory says it was the Kennedy's. There are witnesses who said Robert was there earlier the night she died. The story is that it was an overdose but not self administered. How do you down the number of pills required without a glass of water (there wasn't one in the room where she died). Peter Lawford's account of the evening didn't jive with anyone else's.

Court TV has a good write up on the discrepancies at:

I watched a documentary on this a while ago and it didn't look at all conclusive to me that it was suicide.

Her death certainly doesn't seem to have been fully investigated, which makes you ask 'why not?'

The thing is, similar stories are told about Curt Cobain's death not really being suicide, so do we always have to make a mystery out of such matters or are these events genuinely mysterious?

Mark--

I always wondered about Bert and Ernie--but truthfully can we take the word of a 7 foot yellow bird when it comes to the demise of Oscar--I heard Cookie monster did Oscar in for the 1/2 Mrs. Field's giant chocolate chip cookie someone threw in Oscar's trash can. Who can you believe these days?

I did it by dressing up as Jack Lemon and surprising her.

I wasn't any where near the window. Besides the curtians were closed. and the keyhole diodn't provide a good view, so I went home to plan the demise of Oscar
