Ashley I agree with you completely. I believe Jesus died on the cross. Jesus said -

"Father, into your hands I commend my spirit." Then he let out his last breath and every creature left alive learned the meaning of silence.

So yes, Jesus died for our sins and all of mankind.

Matthew 27:50

"And when Jesus had cried out again in a loud voice, he gave up his spirit."

Mark 15:37

"With a loud cry, Jesus breathed his last."

Luke 23:46

"Jesus called out with a loud voice, 'Father, into your hands I commit my spirit.' When he had said this, he breathed his last."

John 19:30

"When he had recieved the drink, Jesus said, 'It is finished.' With that, he bowed his head and gave up his spirit."

Precisely Kacey, let's face it, even translated to modern language 'it is finished' and 'he gave up his spirit' HAS to mean he died.

Also, when they pierced him in the side with a spear the blood and water came out separated meaning that he was dead.

I watched a programme about crucifixion, and although it is usually said that it takes a long time to die, I think it did say that it was possible in certain circumstances. So he may well have died on the cross.

However, I wasn't there and as you must know I don't take the Bible as 'gospel truth', so I don't know.

From other things I have read, it does sound possible that his family saved him at the last minute.

A good point PDM. As Christ was tortured and then had to carry that heavy cross He no doubt would have been exhausted and in pain thus shortening the time to die. As He was also the son of God, perhaps he had a choice as to how long it would take?

according to the Bible Jesus did die and descended into hell (he was suffering our punishment for us by dying on the cross and descending to hell) He then rose again from the dead and ascended into heaven. So, he beat death and the devil because of his tremendous love for us lowly sinners.

I read, I think in Barbara Thierings book, that it might have been the son of Jesus who was crucified.
Interestingly, I think it was Thiering who said that Barabbas, the name of the criminal crucified with Jesus, actually means 'Son of the Father' and may have been a coded reference to the son of Jesus.

And in Freke and Gandy's book, 'The Jesus Mysteries', it says this:
