Jo,

Religion should guide people how to "reach" God and teach how to substantilized the love of God, for God is love, for God is our parent as Jesus emphasized in His gospel smile

Well, there is the phrase 'putting the fear of God into someone'.

Where does this idea come from?
I assume that it must be the Old Testament, when God showed his wrath - eg to the people killed in Noah's flood.

However, since this has been superseded by Jesus, I wonder why this phrase has continued into modern usage?

I think the church wanted to use this 'fear' to its own advantage.

Couldn't agree more! I can still remember a minister at my church when I was a teenager and did he ever shout a sermon and nobody dared sleep through it. Fear of God was a very common message from him.

right, but i think the 'fear of god' comes from more than just the delivery of the sermon. no matter how's it's told, the messages are still the same; 'if you're not baptised, you'll go to hell', 'if you don't believe, you'll go to hell' etc etc.

Yes you're right peacemaker, I've heard this from ministers in the Church of Christ and the Baptist. I think some ministers and priests tend to get a little carried away with the fire and brimstone.

All I have to say about the "Big Bang" is it's like saying "Oooo a big tornado went through Home Depot and a house came out!!" only on the scale of any entire universe. Now, isn't that silly? Ah, just another farfetched excuse to refuse the idea of an intelligent creator......
