From another thread ~ but relevant here:
Young Earth/Old Earth
Thread started June 05, 2006
Here's a question for you all: How old is our planet? A literal reading of scripture places it to be quite young, whereas science says it's quite old. What say you?
Argyll

very old.

The principal scientific evidence states that the Earth is 4.5 to 4.6 billion years old.

'How old is our planet?'[Argyll]
Very, very old.

'Read about it here:
What these people don’t understand is that He built the world to make us think the earth is older than it really is. For example, a scientist may perform a carbon-dating process on an artifact. He finds that approximately 75% of the Carbon-14 has decayed by electron emission to Nitrogen-14, and infers that this artifact is approximately 10,000 years old, as the half-life of Carbon-14 appears to be 5,730 years. But what our scientist does not realize is that every time he makes a measurement, the Flying Spaghetti Monster is there changing the results with His Noodly Appendage
I still can't believe that there are people that don't believe that the earth is very very old.

it's no surprise to me that people will deny any scientific evidence, or conjure up a psuedo-science to explain it.
humans are a superstitious lot.
While DANIEL E. WONDERLY certainly is no evolutionist and continually talks about the fallacy of evolution, he is quite adamant about the age of the earth being more than 6000 years old, based on the fossil and other geological records.
Two articles I found:

I'm saying this b/c of your latest response to me PDM, not to your latest post, just FYI. ************************ I would say that most young creationists hold this view, though I could be wrong. That's the premise of young earth creationism, that there was no death before the Fall. I've heard one young man say, and I tend to agree with him b/c it makes sense, that when God made the earth He made it mature, full-grown if you will, i.e. the trees were fully mature and able to bear fruit. Does that make sense? Is that old earth creationism? I have to admit I get really confused on that point. I've just recently heard him say this and I'm behind on my normal reading so I haven't had time to read more about it! I can see how a belief in 'creation', based on Genesis, would go with the young earth theory (~ and of course, with a belief in prophecy, etc, as mentioned by Believer). In a similar, but I suppose, opposite way, I see them all as having no basis in fact or logic. I don't say this to offend, I say it simply because the Bible stories & most of the beliefs that go with them, make absolutely no real sense to me. Of course an omni-everything God could do anything, so, I suppose, in that sense it is possible, but i cannot accept it.

.. dinasours were long gone by the time humans arrived .... the creation story in every culture supports that theory also. man was the last being creating then woman. this is the problem i have with christian theology ... there are no actual answers .... except well the bible says so and that just isnt proof enough. .... were the 7 days god created the earth in actual 24 hr days ??? doubtful ... and NOTHING in the original scripts says DAYS it says expanses of time.. periods... not DAYS... yet ANOTHER mistranslation in the bible. those "days" could have been a million years each or 100 years each ... no one knows cuz we werent here. lol and who is to say how god created things ???? i sure have no idea but i KNOW he did it ... i dont need to know HOW ... doesnt matter ... do i believe he created one animal and that it adapted to its surroundings over time ??? absolutely i beleive that cuz science prooves it. do i think maybe he created many variations of the same animals??? yes i do beleive that ... so do i beleive in evolution ... yes i most certainly do and maybe the way god brough things to existance was a big bang .. im sure in the furry of creating light and separation between land and sea and space and planets some explosive things had to happen ... im sure it wasnt pretty ... no masterpiece creation process is ... Okay, how is BOOM!then the whole world was created sound more realistic then a creator makng a creative world?
EVOLUTION IS BASICALLY STUPID!
EVOLUTION IS STUPID!!!!a
Well, I actually thought, when I read this and other similar comments, that everyone was entitled to their own opinion, but that it was actually impolite to say that evolution was 'stupid'. After all, great minds have worked on this theory and considered it to be correct, so, whether correct or not, it isn't 'stupid' ~ not in my opinion. However, I have now found proof that it's OK to say that it is stupid. That doesn't mean that it is right or wrong, just that Dr Kent Hovind has given people 100 reasons for saying that it is 'stupid'. http://freehovind.com/watch-id-%2d6814048597272982882
