You can't really be shocked over this, since it was completely common for the Christian religion to do much of the same atrocities in the name of their Lord...
The Crusades comes to mind, salem witch trials,The exile of Hugonauts from France,Most if not all the middle ages, the Mayas and the Aztecs, basically any land that ever came into contact with christianity...
So please refrain from getting your bloomers in a bunch if other cultures and religions have finally had enough of Christianity's self-serving attitude and attepted cultural genocide.

Yep the Christians have been pretty good at spreading genocide with the Gospel.

Ok so why not believe them? If you've found them in the local indian papers why insist they were biased by Christians? Ah - you miss the point - when it actually does happen. It happens - rarely - so rarely that you found this quote : from 2004 in an article actualy titled "US praises Sri Lankan government" not "attacks on Christians" The next one is even more surreal - from the year 1998 . . . Originally posted by Believer: Here's another one about Hindu militants raping nuns. Again from the BBC . . . http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/south_asia/179541.stm So now you've got what you wanted, the writings from a BBC news source, that confirm that people everywhere do bad things but claim religion. yes - i agree people everywhere indeed do bad things - but except christians others do not claim that their Son of God said "love thy neighbour" and "show the other cheek" if slapped on one and go kill innocents. there is the difference dude. want more ? Find a Hindu King or religious leader who declared crusade in name of a "beloving and forgiving" God, who "sacrificed his own son" Find amongst Hindus a similar group of "Capitan"s and their missionary friends who wiped out Mayan and Inca cultures. What happened to Native Americans ? What happened to Australian Aborigines ? What happened to native New Zealanders ? Were they annihilated and ethnically (almost) cleansed by Hindus ? Find amongst Hindus an inquisition . Find amongst Hindus an equivalent of "Salem Witch trial" Find amongst Hindus the great tradition of burning non-believers and heretics at stake. shall i go on with the "Noble deeds" of Christians in name of God ?

Those phenomena have only been around 100 years or so. People had out of wedlock babies long before that, people died of STDs long before TV and radio. So we are starting of our children on the "sex" at a much younger age.

Those of the past did horrible things so the people around now deserve the punishment. You know I have no problem facing and accepting what Christians did in the past. I think it horrible that people were forced to convert. I think it horrible that people were killed in the name of Jesus, when it went against everything Jesus stands for. I also think it horrible that people preech a message of hate when Jesus' mission was one of love. Originally posted by cherokee moon: The Crusades comes to mind, salem witch trials,The exile of Hugonauts from France,Most if not all the middle ages, the Mayas and the Aztecs, basically any land that ever came into contact with christianity... You're right about this. Again I have no problem acknowledging the wrong doings of those who came in the name of Jesus. Is it right? No it's not, once again it goes against all of Jesus teachings. So you must ask yourself was it Jesus who sanctioned these attrocities or was it man's desire to expand their borders, or control their enviorment. Common sense says that if I give a rule to my kids not to dive in my pool and they do so it is against my wishes that they do it. Jesus never said to force others to kill in His name. Jesus never said to force His message on anyone, so any work done in His name against His wishes is not true Christianity. I'm getting my bloomers in a bunch not because people are getting injured in the name of Christ. That's been happening since weeks after the ressurection. My complaint is that som has the nerve to tell me that my sources are false because they're Christian sources. My problem is that while I acknowledge that evil has been done in the name of God, he didn't even want to acknowledge this until I offered him sources that he felt appropriate. To me that's turning a blind eye to wrong doing, and forcing yourself to be ignorant about it.

Enough already. Christians do not have exclusivity in atrocities. ALL RELIGIONS have committed some form of atrocity in the name of their god. As Believer stated, Jesus' mission and message was PEACE. That humans have distorted this message and forced it upon others is well known. But Christianity has not been the only faith to do so.
I just saw a picture of a little boy, not more than eight years old having his arm crushed under the wheel of a car while a crowd of people look on. This atrocity took place in Iran...the boy's crime, stealing a loaf of bread. Probably to feed his starving family. In these very threads some of you have defended Islam as a religion of peace. Please oh please tell that to the eight year old boy. You can see his poor little face in such pain as they roll the car over his arm. An arm he will never be able to use again.
Might I remind you of the 3500 plus people who died in the name of Islam in the Twin Towers? Do I have to remind you of the soldiers who die daily....and please don't accuse me of condoning it because the US President is a Christian. I do not agree with his politics one bit. May I remind you of the soldiers who were just doing their job and their ship was bombed...the USS Cole.
The truth is as fish stated previously Christianity makes a good whipping boy because true Christianity carries a message of love and peace. Not hate and murder. That bad things happened I do not dispute. But it was not true Christianity being practiced. It was men doing what men do best....oppressing others, lording over weaker, vulnerable people.
Jesus stated that in this world we would have tribulation. Hello, we have tribulation. After his resurrection he gave us one mission "love one another". That we humans screw it up is every day more evident. But don't blame Jesus. He came to bring life and that life more abundantly.
No amount of counting how many times Jesus appeared or how many days he was in a tomb will change my relationship with Jesus.
You believe what you want to believe and serve whom you want to serve. As I have stated before, me and my house will serve the Lord. We will serve the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.
Blessings,
LL

actually i rather like the idea of love and peace. Now if we could just convince the entire world that killing each other over your own private beliefs not only harms others (of course) but yourself spiritually. I don't really think that the reason Christianity is religions whipping boy has anything to do with the messages of peace and love. I just think it is just because that religion is the one most people are familiar with, its just easier to find bad things about it.
Of course you could also site honor killings in India, rape of babies in certain african communties as a way to cure aids, abortion of babies in asian countries because females are undesirable, the sex trade in thialand and other asian countries...So it is blatantly obvious that it is not exclusively Christianity doing these things.
People just tend to know more about Christian atrocities, and if they do hear about other religious abominations, they just brush it to the back of their minds.
