I am a little concerned, though, that by giving too much attention to Paedophilia on this particular thread, some people might assume that a link between homosexuality and paedophilia is being assumed.

[/quote]First I think there is a polar distinction--I have known gay people who were very certain of thier sexual orientation from an early age. They formed long term relationships-and there was nothing transitory about thier orientation (certainly not something they got over in a year or two). Those are very different than the types of sexual relationships that occur in prison or boarding schools (which not to be crude--have always seemed more a case of any port in a storm). I do not think homosexuals are any more or less likely to be pedophiles--frankly I have always considered pedophilia to be more about agression and power of a stronger person over a smaller weaker person.-whether it is a priest, coach, teacher, or family member. Clearly the Catholic Church is hurting for priests--since I thought the Church has always taken the position that homosexuality was a sin--they fact that they now seem to feel it is something you can "get over" in a year or 3 is to me only a further indication of how little understanding the hierarchy actually has of human sexuality.

In fact, a number of lesbian friends (not all, so I don't want to generalize this as a "cause;" other friends have been more oriented towards women from a young age as you noted above) have been molested by a heterosexual male adult when they were children, often being told that if they ratted them out, great harm would come to their parents.

Pedophiles are pedophiles. Being homosexual -- or heterosexual -- doesn't increase the chance either way, I'd think.

In the town I grew up in, a young girl went missing. It turned out her neighbor -- a 30-something man who was a shop teacher at a local school -- had abducted her when she came to sell Girl Scout Cookies and then killed her, hiding her body in the home he shared with his mother. Horrendous. He keeps coming up for parole and he keeps being denied, thank God. I knew his house. It was right next to a good friend of mine from school, where I frequently went after school to play or hang out.

Maybe homosexual pedophile get more press, due to the "sensational" nature of the crimes, but I don't think they are more prevalent (I haven't looked up stats to back this up; this is my opinion).

Maybe 32% Gay is OK for the Vatican.

How much gay is OK for the general Christian Fundamentalists?

I don't even think of pedophiles as heterosexual or homosexual - I think of them as just pedophiles that may not even have any real sexual orientation beyond children. I don't think that the priesthood has more pedophiles because they have more homosexuals. I happen to think they have both more homosexuals and more pedophiles than average because of the job requirements. That DOES NOT mean that I think that the two groups overlap or are one and the same.

Pedophiles have a real problem. They are sick and most likely cannot be cured as of year 2006.
Homosexuals only problem is that society does not accept them. Different problem.
