When I first got him/her the cere had light blue on the outside with a sort of pinkish peach in the center. Then, the outer corners of the cere turned a very pale blue and the closer you got to the middle, the darker it became (his/her cere was always a paleish blue, never "electric blue". Now it's getting the weird brown spots but the edges are still so light blue it's practically white.



That's the clearest picture I have of his cere before the brown spot.

it doesn't sound like he was ever a pinkish-purple.. more of a pinkish-tan? is that right?
i could be wrong - but my vote: female.

Yeah, it wasn't purplish it was definitely a tan color. The keet I just got is a baby and has a very purple cere (which I think is male). If she is a she, would it be possible that the brown spots are her maturing? Dos that happen this late usually?

The spots were the start of mouth infection (it was mucus). The vet cleaned him up and gave me some powdered meds to give him. He'll be all healthy in a little bit!

well i'm glad to hear he/she is ok - even without the brown spot - that cere STILL looks female to me! the pinkish purple that you described on your new keet is definitely male.

Once the brown goes away 100% I'll post a clear picture of the cere so you can tell me!

dangit i wish i could see those pics better- with my crappy puter and the fuzziness from your camera i'm stuck. oh well, glad he's okay. i'll just watch mine and make sure that doesn't happen. eep, worry worry worry. all the time.

so how is "spotty" doing? Is the infection clearing up? Did the vet give any insight into what might of caused the infection?

The vet said that Kiwi had mild pharyngitis which has almost the same symptoms as a cold in humans. She didn't tell me exactly how they getit but she said what most likely happened is that Blueberry gave it to Kiwi. Blueberry already had the infection when I got her, so she said that even thought I always washed my hands when dealing with them or cleaning their food/water one tiny little bacteria must have found it's way over to Kiwi. The fact that I cleaned so much and was really careful is why Kiwi only had a really mild case that didn't require full blown antibiotics.

Kiwi's doing fine, the brown spots are gone and they don't seem to be comming back at all. He's also breathing easier and eating the medicine off the top of his food like a champ!

Ahh well thats great news! Your going to have to post pictures of your two little sweet hearts :rolleyes:
