Yeah thanks for that info, I know a lot about them as I was a Glider sitter for a few months for a friend. Unfortunately Ca is where I live and they are illegal, my friend had gotten a pair in Vegas from his sister and brought them back not even knowing. He knows now and still has them. They really are the coolest creatures. He had a pair and as you said he carried them around in a pouch for a couple weeks to a month when they were babies. They now are extremely attached to him and when they come out they jump right on him and ride around, they also fly around the house, it truely is amazing to watch them. They make the craziest sound of any small animal I have heard, it sounds like a little engine or something, if you bug them when they are sleeping or snuggling the will make that sound, the first time it scared the hell out of me, I thought there was like a 10 pound creature in the little sleeping box in the cage, and turns out they were super tiny. In his cage he has what looks like a nest box but bigger and he has some little towels in it I think and the two gliders cuddle up together and sleep in there. One is super lazy, a bit over weight but still fun, and the other one is average weight and super hyper, it will do backflips in it's cage for a long time, it will bounce from the bottom to the side then to the roof over to the other side and back to the bottom, like big back flips, amazing to as his cage is HUGE, and they get a lot of time out of the cage, he lives alone and has a nice place, for hours every night they get free roam of the place, but they love to hang out with him.
It was crazy taking care of them, they eat some pretty good stuff, most of the food was fruits and veggies, like carrots, corn, grapes, berries(all types), and many more. I would cut them up into little enough pieces for them, add some glider vitamins powder form, a couple freeze dried(I think) crickets, and a little dog treat, for some reason they loved them, but he would just give them one each I think. There were many other things I had to feed them but those were the basics. It is a bit of work as you must cut up fresh food every night, and mix up the diet often as they get bored with food easy, which means you must buy a lot of fresh fruits and veggies all the time, can be expensive too. Also they have some Glider-ade which is like Gatorade for gliders, a special mixture you add to their water.
Anyways they can be expensive and take a lot of care, and you must always have two, and they are awake only at night. So they wouldn't make the best pet for most people, but man they are so dang cool and I love those little guys. I will probably get a pair one day in the future, not anytime soon. Til then I can probably visit my friends gliders, although I haven't talked to him in a while. Thanks Nikkums for the info, they are great creatures, I would love to see them in the wild, do they have a good population down there? Thanks again. Best wishes. Jloc
