I just wanted to share with you. The other day I was out back and I saw a cardinal fly into this mess of trees and vines. So today I went down and sat down for a cigarette (I know) and I see the cardinal again fly into the mess of trees again. So I thought. Hm! She must have a nest in there! So I went to investigate.. and there was a nest! So I pulled on the tree it was in, lightly. And there was a little baby cardinal in it! Also there was an egg that did not hatch. The baby was really big already and there was an egg still so I figured it must have been a dud. But I just thought I'd share this with everyone seeing as cardinals are so rare anyway and I found a nest! Go figure! smile !

Yes.. but I did have a little mishap with a barn swallow nest this year.. twice. The mother hatched all the babies and then threw them out of the nest about a week later. THEN she did it again with the second batch! I'm thinking it could be bc the nest was right above the barn door, where there is traffic. So! Poor babies frown Oh well. The baby cardinal is so cute though. Too bad the mom's other egg didn't hatch because there's only one baby.

There is a pair of cardinals I see every now and then at my feeder. I have tons of doves, mourning, white wing, ring neck and one I don't know the type. The other day I found a skeleton of a baby mockingbird and right on the other side of the fence was a baby that was alive, how it got so far from the nest I don't know, it was too young to fly, couldn't even perch yet and thank God none of my cats had seen it. The parents were on the fence all freaked out. I could not reach where the nest was, but I was able to reach up and put it in the middle of a palm tree. I have a guard bird, it is an adult black bird that guards the other birds while they are eating and it was guarding this baby. It is so funny, he will dive bomb the cats if they go near the birds that are eating. after all have eaten he goes to the feeder and eats. He is out there every morning and afternoon. I love these little nature dramas that go on
