I'm not a moderator, but I really think that if someone has something to say about the forum or the way it is run that it should be DIRECTED to Lisa personally through PM or E-mail rather than publicly displayed on the forum itself. I've seen at least two incidences of people directing questions or comments to Lisa through posts, and it is starting to irk me a bit. If it's not meant to be an "open" subject for the public to respond to, then please keep it private. Sorry to sound rude; I'm in no way defending anyone, just stating an opinion.

If you worked in a job and had an issue with your manager, the professional, mature thing to do is to go to your manager, close the door, and discuss the issue. That's how issues get resolved. To yell out your feelings in the cafeteria is to throw a tantrum, and is never considered appropriate.

Fourbirds, asking Lisa how many budgies she has is not the type of posting that I'm talking about, so I hope you did not take offense. There was one specific post which I found immature and inappropriate, but it definitely wasn't yours. I will not name names, however.

ParakeetWhiz, if you have a constructive comment to make please either post it or PM me if you wish. If your only desire is to make nasty commentary about what people are posting, that is not very conducive to much of anything.

If someone has a personal gripe with me, they can contact me by e-mail or PM. To clear things up, I was mainly talking about ONE post to Lisa complaining about other members on the site. I may have jumped the gun by saying I saw at least two incidences, but that was how I felt at the time of my post. I apologize if it offended anyone, but I don't need to be berated for having my own opinion either.

So now I'm being called an idiot? I was going to post another post stating that I am SORRY for posting this thread at all. And yes, stating that someone's thread is "bull" is rude and unnecessary. Maybe my initial comment was as well, I don't know. I didn't intentionally lash out at anyone or bash their comments.

i'm just having an emotional breakdown in general, and i think all of this is driving me even nuttier. i have PMS and bipolar disorder... and my so-called best friend just called me fat and lazy the other day, then said "i didn't mean it!" so i'm just sick and tired in general. i'm sorry to be such a b*tch.

and if your friend makes jokes about you like that.. it is no friend. More like a passive agressive abuser... I would re think that relationship. No TRUE friend would say those things and say they were joking. I have had friends before tell me (in total love and caring ways) that I have gained too much wieght, and that it was not healthy. They said it out of love, and I took it that way... but if someone is joking or trying to MAKE a joke out of it... than I would really reconsider that relationship.

You do not deserve that from anyone... let alone a "friend"... (but also consider that they were having a bad day too.... but I would still be cautious)

I would have some chocolate for the PMS (or tea! peach or mint flavored tea helpes me always feel better), adn just get a good nights sleep, adn remember that there are people around here (and other fourms) that care about you, and we want the best for you

Miss_Ingle - but this post is exactly what people complain to me about. There is no reason to say *anyone* on the forum is an idiot which is what you clearly did.

It's one thing to express an opinion constructively. It's another thing to make degratory comments about other forum members- whether you explicitly single them out or try to claim it applies to "everyone".

I'm sorry if you don't see why this upsets many people, but you should at least accept that it does. It is precisely this type of post that is upsetting people. People don't get upset by constructive posts. However, they email me in droves when someone posts like this - a post that is generally abusive, that only complains but does not promote a constructive improvement.

A constructive improvement would be for people not to call other people in this forum idiots.

You hang in there!! ANYBODY who calls you "fat and lazy" is NOT your best friend and is not a friend at all. There is no excuse for a friend saying something like that to you - I can't imagine saying that to any friend I have! A friend is supposed to stay by you, support you and help you reach your dreams. This person sounds abusive. I would take a break from them for a while and spend time with other friends who are more faithful to you.

Life is far too short to *ever* put up with degratory talk or people putting you down. We should be supporting each other and helping to make our world a better place.

Good thanks, just busy! Yesterday I spent 6 hrs. at the ER with a friend suffering from fainting spells, only to have them do NOTHING for her... it was so frustrating! But now that it's the weekend and the weather is kinda xxxxxx I'll have more time to peruse the forum.

this is a public forum is it not? I think anything can be posted on here and if they subject reads "To Lisa" no one is making your mouse click on that topic. Just like I choose which topics I want to read or not to read. Also if you dont like the post you dont have to reply to it. That is my opinion.

However..if others do not agree than they do not have to, and they can comment on whatever they want if a poster puts it out there to everyone.

General rule of thumb for any internet chat site.. If you do not want public comment do not post it to be public..

I think the original reason for this topic was because someone posted a topic in the general parakeet chat saying "To Lisa". And the argument from some was to PM Lisa rather than post a topic on it, not whether someone else could post on it. What my opinion of the post was, and I can't speak for this person who posted it was, she posted to be removed from the forum while as saying goodbye to everyone else.

I think she might have been expecting some reply's saying goodbye to her, instead she got something implying she was looking for attention. Well, I think it has gotten the attention!

The topic that was posted was in no way slander or attacking any one person so I dont think that we can say what should be posted or what shouldn't be. As I said before, this is a public forum, she didnt break any rules, and there for didn't make anyone read it or reply to it. They did that themselves. If you think something shouldn't be there, and is in no need for an alert, just go to the next topic.

Actually Steph this post was about a thread that was much more hostile than that. This thread here came out before the "I'm going" thread you're discussing, I think. In any case it wasn't related to that.

In general I am all for constructive discussion. If we want to discuss ways to help keets more efficiently, ways to support shelters, ways to gather money to donate to a shelter, etc. I am all for it. I don't see it a good use of forum resources to have the forum promoting unhappiness, though. It's the same reason we don't have swears in here - because we are building a positive, encouraging environment here. We want keet owners who come here to get help to feel welcomed and that they will receive the help they need.

you guys, i have seen this happen so many times in chat rooms where i've gotten to know people and they me, and all of us got along great, then all of a sudden, out of the blue, someone got bent outa shape and then it was on. people went to nit picking, talkin' about others, it was horrible. the rooms have fallen apart because of it, all us friends, scattered to the wind. this is a great forum, and i haven't been here long, so some of you may feel that i've no right to put my two cents in, we all should realize that everyone has bad days, and be considerate of each other. heinlein says we should be MORE caring and considerate, more polite to the people we love and are in relationships than we are to strangers, however, its not often that way. There will always be 'snerts' and people who behave in snerty ways. Best to iggy that, go on and continue in a manner that marks us as more solidly grounded than that. I like Lisa, by the way, she seems like a nice person, and I'm grateful to her for this place. I am sure she has alot goin' on in her life, yet takes the time for all this. So far, I haven't 'met' any of you that I don't like.... if you can call it meeting when we respond to each others posts.... ::Shrug:: who knows. Anyway, peace and love, white lite to you all.

What we all need to remember is we are on here to have a good time talking about our birds with each other. I would hate to see any site go down. Its fun sharing what we are doing with our keets and I enjoy talking to everyone. Its a shame that some of this has happened. Chin up to any of you who have had bad comments made to you this should not have happened and hope you don't leave. Its hard when someone says something nasty to you and I hope you can get thru it.

Lets all try to have fun and have fun with our keets. To everyone treat everyone how you would like to be treated that is my philosophy. I like you all but please no silly nasty comments this is not constructive to any forum. And if we see these pop up now and then just ignore them they will go away.

I was about to post a topic about how this is the only forum I've ever been to where the conversation was always intellegent, but realizing how some people can act...

The Internet is such a huge community, there are bound to be all sorts of different people joining a forum.

I think that this one is good, generally, but we have our ups & downs.

I'm a member to many forums. This is the only forum where there are many judgemental people. And people who read WAY to much into things and take it to a level where it doesn't need to be. Yeah sometimes people can be rude and post things where you just roll your eyes and think "what is the point of posting that".. But who are we to say what should or shouldn't be posted. Has long has it is not hurting someone else, insulting someone and offensive, I say post what is on your mind. I like to read random things and read about other things that are going on in other people lives. If I want to post something to someone with out sending them an PM, maybe some has some insite or also what to about what I have to say. I don't understand how people can have problems with other people when it comes to chit chatting over the internet...

Well, from my viewpoint, as long as people are not insulting others, or using bad language, or breaking any laws or rules, there shouldn't be a problem.

On a forum, it's difficult to tell the mood of those posting ~ there's no body language or tone of voice to help.

Glad to join your forum because I joined a parakeet site before and the administer was MEAN! When I first join it and was new I posted a topic about my parakeet a bad flyer and was crashing everywhere. Then crash into a beer can that was my uncle who came to visit. The administer he was making jokes about my bird being a bad flyer.Saying “parakeet love beer and love peanut butter and jam sandwich” I don’t get what he mean by that but one of the member was like…Make me think of a parakeet who drunk wearing a hat. These people are grown adults and have bad manner and they didn’t know I was only a kid.My mom made me quit that forum. I’m glad I did and found this web You’re the BEST forum(I mean it)I wonder how long it took you to make this site??1 years?

Glad you're happy here. I'm not sure when Lisa first set up the forum. The earliest posts that I can find go back to 2004.

I've been to a few boards, myself. And I've seen judmental people on all the boards I went to. But I also saw caring and intelligent people.

I personally believe that members can help set the tone, themselves. Nonetheless, I think PDM does a great job at administrating and moderating. She sometimes lets us work it out, and she sometimes has a judicious comment.

I don't live with parakeets, but members of my family do. Does that count for posting here?

I've been a member of a lot of forums (and a not-so-active member here for about a year) over the years and can honestly say this is one of the best. I enjoy the way it's moderated/administrated and the commitment of most everyone to maintain a positive and civil atmosphere.

PartlyCloudy - I agree with you. The diversity of the members here adds a dimension that is not present in other forums.
