Ok it's almost impossible for chichiri to get any sleep even when i have him covered (which is rare) because i always start needing to sleep in my recliner with the tv on in the dark which is in my living room next to his cage...(did everyone enjoy the run on sentence?) i do have a night light by his cage but i've been lax in not turning it on for the last couple nights. is there any way he can get more sleep? i don't know if he sleeps during the day i always have my music from my winamp list on when i'm not home so he has some noise to keep him company. that's the only eight hours a day except on weekends when i'm always home he could get sleep if any. I don't know whether he sleeps during the day or not since i'm the only one in my apt i wouldn't know.

Any ideas?

Jamiecole2, what type of music do you play during the day? If it is mellow music, he should sleep during the day as well, but they really need a minimum of 10 to 12 hours sleep each night.

If it is at all possible you really need to at the very least move his cage from away from the tv, since it tends to startle the birds especially if you watch any kind of action program.

Do you know for sure that he doesn't sleep when he is covered?

And you really need to cover the cage anyway regardless of whether or not you think that he maybe sleeping. The light of the tv is much brighter than that of a nite lite and harsh for the bird.

Please try and be diligent for your birds sake.

I am really not trying to be rude just concerned. smile

unfortunately i can't move the cage away from the tv because both are in the living room. and that is the only place in my one bedroom apt i can keep both bird and cage...my bedroom is rarely used even by me for sleeping in and it's filled with too much furniture that even if i spent that much time in there i wouldn't deem it safe for him to be in. and i couldn't move ti into the dining area because my dining room table is there and there's no way to separate that area from my kitchen since it is a apt.

as for the type of music i play it's japanese pop and anime music. and if he slept when he was covered i wouldn't know...but he was only covered in any case for about 8 hours on the three times i covered him to see if that helped...i don't think it did though.

as for the location of the tv in relationship to his cage....

computer/printer/ small space/ TV/ bookcase

pretend this is the living room
the line above represents the wall closest to my bedroom. to the left since i cant' draw vertical lines in posts is another wall with wallscrolls and the living room window and airconditioning unit the line below will be the wall that's closest to one of entryways for my building. to the back of my wall you were on the other side would be a entry stairwell for my apt. building. underneath the line i'll list what's on that wall. the dining room area is to the right of my living room area also with no barrier between the two.

empty space/ cage sitting on trunk/pwr outlet/my recliner which does make noise when i put it down in the middle of the night when i move to my bed.

i apologize in advance for the uber long post...but skitterbug asked and i wanted to make sure she understood the layout of my apt. before she made any more suggestions

Im sure he still gets sleep during the night because my birds sleep during the day with the tv on, my music on and people talking. Theirs nothing else you can really do.. :p I'll think abou it.

Well since space seems to be an issue, and I really was not trying to be rude in my post just so you know, I would definitely try the cover on the cage for a longer time frame to see if maybe that does help.

My house is fairly small as well, though not as small as yours sounds. laugh If you try a heavier blanket that may help dull the noise some from the tv and help ease your friend's stress. During the day since you are not home anyway try some classical music or something mellow. I put on easy listening music, I personally can't stand it but Bailey doesn't like to two step to the country music I listen to smile

The other thing may sexual tension that comes when they mature, which will pass.

I also understand sleep issues or lack of sleep since I am up late nights as well and have my tv on also.

Hope this helps

i know you weren't trying to be rude in your post... smile yeah the living room is bigger than i made it appear on the message but i don't think you wanted a actual space that would represent the size of my living room laugh don't really have a heavier blanket i can use ...used to have more blankets..but well...someone stole those when they used to be my room mates long long time ago...nice ones too they were...

and i like country music but yeah i agree with you on certain parties can't stand certain music..i listen to japanese pop because of the nice beat and originality not because i can understand the words smile and i'll see what i can do about daytime. maybe i can find nice streaming webstation that won't have commercials.. smile

keep up the advice thingie smile thanks again

They suggest that you wait until they're 18 months but can be bred as early as 12 months, and since you don't know the age anything is possible.

Keep us posted on your progress.

oh yeah, is he tame and do you take him out of his cage?

If not that maybe part of it as well.

i can take him out of his cage but usually i just leave his cage door open when i'm at home on the weekends and if i'm not too tired a couple hours on the weeknights.

and he will stay on my finger or my hand for a bit if i let him...usually he just watches me from the cage...

birdy got too close to my feet though a couple times by my computer desk and he's so quiet i didn't know he came over so i accidently tapped him with my foot...he's not hurt btw...but he's a silly bird...

and he'll let me scratch his neck and head feathers sometimes on his own terms...when he has had enough he'll start to nibble/rapid fire bite my hands.

I also take him into the shower with me on either saturdays or sundays and while he dries i clean out his cage...no i don't use soap on him...have to hold him on my arm though when we shower together since that one perch i had the suction cups wore out and i don't feel it safe to use that perch for him...unless i can think of a way to make the adhesian permanent.

stupid suction cups.

anyhow that's all for now...replies welcome
