WOW what have I been missing since I been gone lol. I would just ignore this nemo & kesha person she/he is obviously here just to provoke you to respond back to her and it's not worth it. I clip all my parakeet's wings too and if I didn't they would be DEAD. Parakeet's depend on us to make good decision's for them since they can't and if you feel like you are doing everything you possibly can to love them and protect them then what someone else says shouldn't matter.

Well, my new little guy flew over my 6 ft entertainment center that is kiddy corner (no other place for it in the living room) and it is to heavy to move so the poor little guy was stuck behind it for about 20 min until he got close enough for me to reach him. I was stressed the entire time and he looked scared too. So, I have to get his wings clipped it is too dangerouse for him not to. He is doing great on stepping up but I freak out every time he flys off my hand cause I am affraid he is going to get hurt cause he trys to land on picture frames hanging on the wall and hits the wall and then what happend today. So, when my hubby gets home I think we are going to attempt to clip his wings and use this wonderful thread to guide us. Any more pointers will be greatly apprecated.

If you are nervous and this is your first time, you may want to have someone who knows what they are doing, do it for you. A family owned pet store near where I am does it for me. Now that they have showed me how to do it, I clip their wings myself.

YIPPY! My husband held Reeko in a towel and I cut his wings using this guide. Now he just flutters to the ground. His wings our cut as smooth as Lemons cause this is my first time but I will get better at it.

hey peaches, was it hard?? i really dont want to pay 5$ for each wing in my local petstore lol for the guy to clip my keets wings, plus ill need to take my keet there blah blah blah you know.. so yea was it hard? and did cliping the wings help anything? i mean do the keets trust you more now or do they dont fly off when they are on your finger now because obviously they cant fly?

please let me know, my 2 keets love to fly but i sometimes they may run away from me LOL outside of the cage of course, so yea, i been considering cliping the wings but i am really unsure how to do it, i mean i read this guide but hhow do i hold the keet with a towel??

Well, it wasnt as hard as I thought it would be. What my husband did was just had the keet on top of his cage and kind of snuck up behind him with the towel and put it over him and covered the entire bird, then cradled it in his hand and then we sat down on the couch. He then moved the towel so we could see the wing and he held the wing out very gently why I cut it. I was very careful to make sure I stayed under the 2nd feather like the directions said. I dont think I would ever try it by myself cause it would of been a lot harder. Since your so nervouse about it I would advise to take them to get them clipped by someone who knows what they are doing and ask them to show you how to do it so then you wont be as nervous.

I dont know if he trusts me more or not (have only had him a week) but now he cant fly behind my entertainment center where I cant get to him and chew on any wires. That was my reason for doing it. Now he just flutters off my hand onto the floor. He was scared though from the towel and everything so I didnt mess with him much and put him back in his cage to settle down so I havent really had him on my hand much since I did it. Good luck!

hm, how do he get out of his cage? i mean you must take him out because i recon he will fall down and hit the floor cuz he cant fly, yea? so let me get this straight, basically now he is forced to be on your hand most of the time? and if he wants to get on the window for example , you need to pick him up there? boy i think that may be a bit cruel, i mean birds love to fly, and no they dont crash into things like ppl say for example windows/walls, maybe the first time they fly in the room but then they understand they arent suppose to go there, i just have 1 problem with my 2 keets, they like to go on the blinds which i dont like, is there a way to prevent them from doing so? i really dont feel like taking my keets to a petstore now and have some guy clip their wings, and he charges 5$ per wing, which is a bunch of crap in my opinion, and i think that incase he makes a mistake, he wont even care because its not his keets.
