Yes, I think you are right CM. But some feel that to question and doubt undermine their faith, and is sin. Therefore, they try to eliminate that doubt, by sheer force of will, or by praying that God remove it, or by auto-hypnotic methods (focusing on rote things, for example).
Also, as I said in another thread, even disbelief can be like a religion. If one focuses and refuses to even speculate on the possibility of God (atheism, for example), then one is also closing off an important part of life, IMO.
I have a belief in God - and a faith. And yet, I am an agnostic, at heart. My belief is not the same as others have, but why should that matter to others? [unless they feel that their salvation depends upon showing me the error of my ways?]

As the old saying (or joke?) goes, find a (so-called) perfect church, and I join - right away, it's not perfect any more.
But, seriously, would we be human if we had no flaws?
When I've trained and taught people in retail and cash register work, I've always tended to distrust those who are fast and seeminly perfect. The ones who deliberately slow down to be attentive to others and double-check themselves on accuracy and are willing to learn are better, in the long run.
Maybe we're better than our "rep." Our Mothers love us, for the most part. And I'd bet that our creator, if we were in fact created, loves us.
