I have had my first parakeet george for about 4 or 5 years now and I've never really trained him . I used to be able to hold him but he bites now and doesn't have his wings clipped. Yesterday I got another parakeet from my aunt and cleaned up its cage because it was sooo dirty and gross. I think she's a girl. She's also not trained she flys around when you put your hand in the cage. I put the two cages next to eachother and george chirps then she chirps back its so cute. But can I put them in the same cage.? She's over 7 years old. And I don't have the proper equiptment to take care of eggs if they do breed. And I'm pretty sure george is a boy. What should I do?

do you have pictures? We can usually tell you boy vs girl with a clear picture of the cere (fleshy part above the beak). They should be separated for a few weeks at least anyway, just to make sure the new bird isn't sick. It seems that as long as they aren't offered a nesting box or anything that looks like a nesting box they won't breed. i have male and female and nothing has happened in the year that i have had them together.

Yeah I have a picture of her. The part about her beak is yellow like her I think. And george is blue and so is the part above his beak. She's also a lot smaller then george . I don't know if she's sick because her cage was really gross with moths and worms and you never know.

well dark blue and purple are male, pale pink, white/off white are usually female.
yuck! sounds like it's a good thing she's in a new home now. I may even consider bringing her to a vet just for a checkup. Things like Mites and upper respiratory infections breed in dirty environments like that. I'd hate for her to be sick and in turn get George sick

Ahhhh yeah that would be horrible. I got mite and lice spray for birds and I'm going to spray her cage down and try to get some on her[that's going to be hard considering she's so scared of me ] just incase and ill keep and eye on her. yeah she's bright yellow and has pretty green spots . I hope I can put them togehter so george can have a little girlfriend <3

I think you should try not to get the spray on her - she'll end up ingesting it which is probably not good for her - but you should consult a vet if possible... Even if they stay in separate cages they can see and hear each other which is fun for them. Good luck!

welcome to the forum.your keets have reach the age were breeding is not a good idea there are high risks to the female.after waiting for a few weeks and this is just to make sure the new bird isn't ill with anything you should be able to put her in the cage. watch for a few days to see how they get along.read lisa forum on training.wah the cage out with steamy hot water.

Yeah . I won't spray her then. I hope she's not sick so they can be friends. I feel so glad she's happy and clean now . How would I tell if she's sick?
