I only tried or heard of cornbread when i was in my 20's and dressing? What?

So um seriously how do you get a bread dressing? And why?

Cornbread is a bread made from corn meal, originated in the South in the U.S. And instead of stuffing, like with a baked turkey, Southerners prefer a "stuffing" made with cornbread and turkey roasting juices and ??? (I'd have to ask a sister, but I think google or other searches would give a recipe). We call that "stuffing" dressing. Like "turkey and dressing."

Other traditional Thanksgiving menu items (from my neck of the woods) are cranberry sauce, sweet potator souffle and pumpkin pie (among others).

This is random yet not so irrelevant to me anyway, I like cranberry sauce , so do many others, I do not like sweet potato, I tried that in my 30's um.. those are just yams who you kidding.

And for the first time we bought a pumpkin pie to try maybe 5 years ago. We all sat down and took a bite, mine ended up in my napkin..known fact most people swallow the pie.

Anyway we decided it was a defective pie as nothing could be that bad. So then my mom in her infinite wisdom said maybe you have to bake it yourself .

So the pie was made according generations of acceptable pie preparation rules passed down matriarch to matriach and the pie was still offensive.

Oh wait did I mention I was a picky eater.

JUST yams? No, not really. I don't like a yam or sweet potato on the plate as a dish, either - unlike my wife. Candied yams ARE better, but still don't call out to me. But sweet potato souffle, made in the Southern style - I'd bet you would like it and would have even liked it in your 30's. That was this past year, right?

But I guess we better get back to random and irrelevant.

I hope the in-laws like it. Marge and I were in Southwest Georgia Monday visiting my Mother.

I am known to prefer the turkey leg. I also like giblet gravy. And just about any style of potato salad. And deviled eggs.

And since we're jumping the gun a little talking about Thanksgiving, why not go even farther into the season, and bring up Southern style eggnog?

Many different recipes, but the one my great granddaddy made each night was pretty stiff - both with the liquor content and the texture. You used a spoon.
