Weel, the death of actor Heath ledger (10 things I hate about you, the patriot, brokeback mountain) is all over the news.

many people are saying that he overdosed on drugs and that it may have been intentional.
I'm watching FoxNews and MSNBC and it's just constant news about him. for the last hour, that's all that has been on. I'm not specifically a strong fan of Ledger as a n actor, but he was a good actor, still, what is the need for all this coverage? if it was anyone else, there would have been a 2 second clip about it, possibly on only local news, but for an hour, non-stop on 24-hour world new channels? come on.

What are your thoughts?

i'm actualy really distraught about his death. Myd ad just told me and I cried for about a minute but stll, it hit me that hard. I feel like he's been an incredibly influential force on twenty somethings that have grown up with his movies and is a relaly talented actor. He never did a movie he didn't like and always stood for something in his roles.
I for one will miss him.

I'm not saying that he was a bad actor, I did enjoy his movies, but I feel the topic is getting a bit too much coverage... then again, it dosnt surprise me the coverage it gets.

also, at the beginning of the report, one person said there was ONE report about how it's possible that there were pills strewn around his body, but it was not verrified. they took that to mean he WAS found with pills everyhere around his body. Unverified 'facts' are being considered true by the media....

It is the media.. what do you or I expect.
However it is sad that he has passed away no matter how it happened.

I was so shocked when I opened Yahoo and saw he'd died. Another great actor gone. Brad Renfroe just died too, from an apparent OD. It's getting so much coverage because he was a great actor and a new Dad, too. Celebrities are surrounded by the media circus, in life as well as death.

That's why I don't watch cable news... they're a bunch of leeches that latch onto a story, speculate, spread rumors, suck it dry, then move on and forget about it.

Heath Ledger was a human being, so we should care about his passing but there are much more important things going on in the world.

Why is that I have to read page 4 of the New York times to read about a cease fire of a war in Congo that has killed over 4 million people in the past 10 years? You don't even hear about that on the news.

It is crazy and all around the news. I don't know if anyone looks at TMZ.com, but they have said that it was confirmed that there were pills strewn about. Let's just say there are some celebs where if they passed I wouldn't necessarily be shocked... of course the death of someone is sad, but shocking is different. His death is a shock especially since he has a very young daughter.

DavidPM...You're right about how there ARE more important news matters happening in our World, but our culture is endlessly fascinated by celebrities, they are our escape from war and poverty, hence the reason it's getting such a huge amount of coverage. More people can better relate to young Hollywood than to foreign affairs.

I only just heard and I was really shocked. I really liked him. 'The Four Feathers' was my favourite film of his.
