Regarding strict parents, I don't think that my kids would say that I was overly strict, but they do think that I am overly protective.

The thing is, as a parent, you have been on this earth longer than kids and are aware of more of the dangers. Good parents spend their time protecting their children from danger, so many youngsters are simply unaware.

OK, most of the time everything will be ok, but enough kids are murdered, raped, beaten up, killed on the road, drugged, etc, etc, for parents to worry.

Children are the most precious things in life to a parent. When they hear of kids being abducted, killed in cars, hit on level- crossings, tortured by paedophiles, etc, it is unbearably painful.

To think of what their child might endure or how they might lose a child is a serious frightening worry. Parents are not trying to be awkward; they are trying to protect their kids and themselves from unbearable pain.

My Mum is still over-protective with my brother and me!!

The majority of parents aren't stricked because they like to be mean. They are stricked because they care what happens to you. Like PDM says with all the crazy people out there I'd be more concerned if you had parents who did not care and did not set down rules and who did not call to see if you were ok.
Just watch the news and read the papers and then you will know why your parents worry everyday about you.

yeah, I agree with PDM, Im a mom of two crazy boys and have a girl on the way, my mom was protictive with us, which Im glad she was, we never was the crazy teens who drunk all the time and partied becasue she was there to stop us... I know when some one like my hubby says Im acting just like my mom I know Im doing a good job with my kids... its better to have a mom who yells and grounds you for doing something what could hurt you or get you hurt, then to have a mom who lets you do what ever you want..I;ll be the mom who is protivtive over my kids when they are teens, becasue I want them to grow up happy and healthy..
