Quick update- funny, the vet called RIGHT after I posted this!

Petey has a non-communicable viral infection! This is one that's easily treatable with a variety of antibiotics! Currently, he's taking them via water, which is being changed out several times a day. However, they would like him to be on liquid drops, which I would have to administer to him. If I'm able to do this, and he's a good budgie and takes them, he will be able to go back into the cage with Olivia and the baby! YAY! If not, it's OK to continue using the powder antibiotic we're on, but he'll have to stay in the nursery cage so Olivia doesn't get the meds through the water.

Anyhow, this is good news!

Good news! Petey is going to be OK!

When I picked up his medicine this evening, the vet said that he had a staff infection, and that he can easily get over it with the medicine. I have to give it to him twice a day for 14 days.

So when I got home I struggled with catching him. Once I caught him he NEVER bit me! What a good boy! I took him to the bathroom and gave him his medicine. He opened his mouth and took it down! I didn't even have to try to convince him to go for it! YAY! This means he gets to go back home with Olivia and the baby! So, here are some pictures of Petey's home coming! Olivia missed him and popped out of the nest box as soon as she heard him back in the cage! They preened each other for at least 10 minutes. He's a VERY good boy!!!

I've had staph and it's ucky! Glad you are able to get him taken cared of especialy with a new baby in the house.

Thankfully he can go back in the same cage with Olivia because she really does need him. Great pictures, and keep us updated on his recovery.

Yeah, witnessing that PROVED to me that without a doubt these birds are loving, affectionate, and have souls- no matter what anybody says...they deserve better than many of them get. I'm very lucky they are in my life. They truly missed each other, and have spent a lot of time together since. (oK, so Petey has to hang out on the perch to the nest box while Olivia is in with the baby.) He even gave her the best spot next to the millet today!
