hhmm. it could be behavior, keep an eye on her and make sure her urine stays clear, she could be getting a urinary tract infection due to all the stress from being spayed. If it continues contact your vet again. It's been a long time since i was in day practice so i don't remember if there are any connections to spay surgery and bladder control. Cats hate the smell of Citrus, so if it ends up continuing and you've ruled out urinary tract infection and surgical complications, try squirting some orange juice in the area, or put down orange peels. The smell usually deters them from urinating in that spot. Again not familair with UK veterinary med. here in the US there's a product called "feloway" that serves as a calming agent to cats, that may also help. It's just a spray that you spray into the air.
The sponge over should be just fine, just be sure not to get the sutures wet, it can cause them to disolve too quickly.

She could also be letting you know how unhappy she is right now with what is going on. Just be thankful it is not your bed she is making a statement on. They will do that.

Thanks to Blr & White Pegasus for the info & advice.

Perhaps she is just stressed. She just follows me round all the time, wanting to be fussed.

At first she seemed to be the one responding better, but now the other one seems more confident ~ even removing her bonnet & sneaking outside! I have managed to sort her out quickly, thankfully.

I'll remember about the citrus fruit, though, knowing these they would probably love it. cats aren't supposed to like water, but if they hear me running the taps for a wash, they'll be in the sink with me! ~ I'll remember to keep them away from it while they have stitches, though!

Thanks again!

There is actually a connection to the surgery and possible bladder control issues. I have read that bladder incontinence can be a side effect. I have read that it's usually a problem with spaying them when they're too young, but that it's also a possibility with older pets.

I agree, though, that it could be a stress issue. Cats are very sensitive and it seems like something a cat might do in a stress situation.

It probably wouldn't hurt to just give your vet a call about it. Because, if it is a bladder issue there are treatments available which would be good for you both because I'm sure it's a pain for you and an embarrassment for her. If it's not a bladder control issue your vet might be able to help you figure out a plan. It's possible that you may be able to remove her cone if that is causing her too much stress. (At the advice of your vet of course)

Our poor little cats, feeling a bit sorry for themselves, in their bonnets:

They are cute but a bit sad I think. The one just follows me around. They both just want to be fussed most of the time.
Though they do cry to go out, I don't think they'd enjoy it. They sleep a lot.

The stitches come out & the bonnets off on Monday.

Very cute. I agree with Heather, although it's also sad to see them trying to scratch their head.
