As the USA plans to say goodbye to Bush Junior as president. let's reconsider his time in office.
....The current president Bush has been the worst president in U.S. history for the invironment and for human rights violations.

As much as I did not support him in 2000, I learned to appreciate his presidency. I don't agree with him about a lot of issues but... he took care of the important issues- our safety from terror. It's very easy to do say now that Iraq did not really have the weapons every intelligent agency from every country said they had. No one gives him credit for the fact that we were not attacked again even though they tried numerous times. Let’s give credit where credit is due. I mean we would have blamed him if he didn't stop an attack. And let’s talk about the issues and not just decide that we hate him and therefore he cannot do anything right. Did you know that he was the American president that helped the most to Africa with funds fighting AIDS for example? Why do you think they accepted him as a king a few months ago.
Yes, it was completely unexpected and because the US has so few interests there, Bush has gotten little recognition for these good works.
No one gives him credit for the fact that we were not attacked again even though they tried numerous times. Let’s give credit where credit is due. I mean we would have blamed him if he didn't stop an attack.
You mentioned that Bush had thwarted numerous attacks. Can you give us examples? I agree with you that too much is made of the 2000 election in Florida. We had our chance in 2004. It also upsets us when our democratic representatives fail to vote in ways that we expect them to.

He would not have thwarted numerous attacks because he loves it when we get attacked. We are scared, we blindly follow the government, and it is easy to keep us bliss. I don't think too much is made of the 2000 election. He fixed an election. He made himself president without our approval. He's lied and cheated. By law, the supreme court justices and he should be in jail right now.

The Aids epidemic has been with us globaly for since approximately the late 70's. I may be wrong but I think most of the Rock stars, Bono and Oprah made it to Africa before Bush. I frankly don't think that offsets passing U.S. laws that are able to skirt the Geneva convention. Arresting and transporting detainees to foreign soil so you can torture them in secret. Maintaining a military that is so lax in the maintaining of dicipline that members are able to humiliate and torture detainees in their care when they are not being interrogated. Oh and let's not forget the immediate domestic disaster response when Katrina occured. He had advance notice of possible impending disaster and still did not mobilize the aid fast enough to stop American victims from drowning when they could have been saved. And the topper of all, the cherry on top, Just recently at a press conference, he was unaware that gas prices had almost hit $4.00 per gallon. Does anyone in the U.S. not know this? What planet does he live on? I have purposely not mentioned the environment. The list is too long. Suffice to say; most scientists feel he has not just failed to further progress but has set us back dozens of years.

Did you look at him when he became a president in 2000 and now? Did you see how older he looks. He looks like each of the death of innocents in 9/11, and each dead soldier is hurting him physically. Yes, he is not "a great "communicator" so say the least, but you could see that he cares and he is in pain. I mean it is one thing not to agree with him, which I don't on a lot of the issues, but to say what you just did is blinded hate towards him. By the way this is a list of of known terror plots thwarted by the U.S. government since Sept. 11, 2001. 19 that were published: This are just a few. • May 2003, Iyman Faris: American citizen charged with trying to topple the Brooklyn Bridge. • June 2003, Virginia Jihad Network: Eleven men from Alexandria, Va., trained for jihad against American soldiers, convicted of violating the Neutrality Act, conspiracy. • August 2004, Dhiren Barot: Indian-born leader of terror cell plotted bombings on financial centers • August 2004, James Elshafay and Shahawar Matin Siraj: Sought to plant bomb at New York's Penn Station during the Republican National Convention. • August 2005, Kevin James, Levar Haley Washington, Gregory Vernon Patterson and Hammad Riaz Samana: Los Angeles homegrown terrorists who plotted to attack National Guard, LAX, two synagogues and Israeli consulate. • December 2005, Michael Reynolds: Plotted to blow up refinery in Wyoming, convicted of providing material support to terrorists. • June 2006, Narseal Batiste, Patrick Abraham, Stanley Grant Phanor, Naudimar Herrera, Burson Augustin, Lyglenson Lemorin, and Rotschild Augstine: Accused of plotting to blow up the Sears Tower. • July 2006, Assem Hammoud: Accused of plotting to hit New York City train tunnels. • August 2006, Liquid Explosives Plot: Thwarted plot to explode ten airliners over the United States. • May 2007, Fort Dix Plot: Six men accused of plotting to attack Fort Dix Army base in New Jersey. • June 2007, JFK Plot: Four men accused of plotting to blow up fuel arteries underneath JFK Airport in New York. http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,335500,00.html

Why did Bush ~ and our own Mr Blair ~ go into Iraq, when most nations ~ not to mention most British people (I don't know about Americans) were against the invasion?

PS
By the way, new2bird, I hope you don't mind me mentioning this, and I know that pictures of birds are great in the right section, but having large keet photos randomly posted in this area makes it difficult to follow the conversation.

If you want to use your phoptos as a signature, they must be much smalller: ~

Didn't mean to carry on,but sometimes I don't know when to stophttp://www.wineintro.com/forum/images/icons/default/blush.gif
but... I hope that you are aware that ever since the Iraq war there are less terror attacks in general all over the world, because the terrorists are busy fighting in Iraq.
What is more important is that in Polls in Muslim countries that use to show that over 70% view suicide bombing as justified the latest polls in 2007 show a significant drop in the numbers.
For example in Lebanon the % dropped from 74% in 2002 to 34% in 2007
There is also a drop in recruiting to Terror organizations.
So maybe democracy does work?

I don't see how causing trouble in Iraq is helping to prevent terrorism ~ in fact I believe that the opposite may even be happening.
