THAT is true. When I worked at the Scarborough location of my chain, it was much much worse, because the Manager was afraid of the small animals (which I supervised) and didn't care about them, or know about them.

I came to her once and told her I had a ferret (who was 7weeks old!) with difficulty breathing, dehydration and alot of snot, and all she could say was "ew, get it away from me, dont those things bite?!!"

At the Pickering location, while the manager wouldnt have allowed me to call a vet (that was against company policy) she would have at least shown some concern, and allowed me to take the animal hoem that night to care for it.

It's so gross to think about what had happened!
I am so in disgust in what I have just saw and watched with my OWN EYES.

My issue with this video is that the person working undercover just stands there and watches while these animals suffer, doing absolutely nothing about it. They are just as bad as the person doing the crime themselves for not stopping them.

in some cases its a peta employee working there to get information, other times its an actual employee who sent in the information.

in the first case, the peta employee knows they have to get the information, if they make a scene and intercede sadly more animals will suffer as no information will be gathered and no case will be made, its a tough situation but its a neccesity, much like undercover work with cops ...

in the 2nd case, often the employee has no one to turn to, if they do they will loose their jobs, most are illegal immigrants, or working close to minimum wage barely paying bills so they need the job, no matter how horrible it might be. these people dont make much money. so they decide to video tape it or get pictures to send in to the proper people to try to change it.

Couldn't have explained better.
It's such a shame people would do this to animals.

I went into PetSmart today and to see what they were doing with their fish, cats, birds, ect...

To find cats are A-okay, fish are not overcrowded...BUT!
To find a parakeet's tail CUT OFF.
NOTHING IS THERE.
Except for a straight cut row of feathers.
I was going to adopt the little guy.

Such horrible people who work there!
They can't QUIT the job?!
Are they that desperate?
Do they think it's fun?
Ect?

I bought my two parakeets from petsmart and they were perfectly healthy we went to the vets the same day to get them checked out since we heard the stories and the vet said that they were alright looking. The worker who helped us get the birds was very gentle with them.I think that it depends on the store and the employees.I agree with some people in saying that it is ok to get them from there as long as you do what i did and go get them checked out from an aviarian vet as soon as you get them or when you can.I made the appointment the day before i got them and got them set up in the smaller cage we got 2 put them in for cleaning and took them straight there.

Why are we reading a thread that's a year old?

How can a person take this as truth, now? Possibly they've cleaned up their act?

Yes, this was horrible to look at the videos, but get some current info and then discuss it.
