Yeah. When Marge and I are going off, like for a day, or into the bedroom at night (closing the door, because Trippi would follow us in, and claws just don't mix well with a water bed), we'll say to Trippi: "Guard the house, Trippi!"
Of course, that's a real joke, as most people see very little of her, and if someone broke in, her attitude would be "Every cat for herself!"
Anyway, when we say, "Guard the house!" she gets this concerned look on her face, like ohhhh, do you HAVE to leave?
She especially can't understand us going off to bed just when it's getting to the part of the day (the night) when it's time to party. Ha. LOL. We leave it with her. She can party without us.

Trippi may have been like that at one time (scaring off intruders), because when she first came to our home, she was like Royalty - the Princess - to our outside, semi-feral cats Smokey and Tuffy, and she was quite fearless.
Our place is in a wooded area, and we've cleared two of the five acres, but we have deer, raccoons, possums, hawks, snakes, and all the other things (don't know if we have bear, or not). Anyway, in December, 2006, Trippi was mauled outside pretty bad. We didn't think she'd live. And we're still doing wound care on her every two or three days, although the wound is down to about an inch and a half by two inches, and it's just the skin and fur that has to slowly grow together.
If we could afford it, a hyperbaric kind of treatment facility could have healed her wound faster, and possibly she could have had a graft. But she's come a long way!
Anyhow, she's more timid about strangers than she used to be.
Now, if they tried to pick her up, that'd be different.
I have to pick her up and hold her for the wound care, and she endures it, but she likes the being picked up almost as little as she likes the wound care.
If she comes to your lap for pets, she has to be "free" to come and go as she pleases. And we respect that.
