You know, there's general music knowledge, and then, there's what I know. And what I know is mostly what I like (and can remember) and what Marge introduces to me, and most of it it turns out that I like.
To get to the point, I'd have to ask Marge about if it is popular, genrally, in the USA. I think it is, because I think that the public perception of Diana is similar to that of Marilyn - a delicate and beautiful butterfly crushed way too soon.
And I realize that the public perception might not be accurate, let alone complete.
I do think the Candle in the Wind was better. I didn't think the Diana version mawkish, but I can see your point.
Perhaps a completely different song for Diana would have been better.
