I know. Even if I wasn't morally against fishing, I still don't think I would see the joy in it. You're sitting on a boat, waiting for a fish to bite some bait. And much of the time, you don't even get a bite the entire time you are out there.

I think birdygirl said it all. It is a lot more than dropping a line in the water and waiting. To actually catch a fish is quite an art form. They are not stupid and in a catch and release situation they have the oportunity to learn and trust me they do.

yes i absolutely do.

given the vast amount of fishing being done by companies to the point of "drying" the oceans of its fish, there is NO NEED to go fishing to get fish, or to even get fresh fish.

and the WORSE part is the catch and release, people do not realize once you have hooked the fish, its dead... whether now or 10 minutes after you throw it back to drown

I know.
My Dad used to go fly-fishing. Casting was indeed an art form. The 'flies' were an art form in themselves.

I have to say I love to fly fish. For me it is peaceful and yes its an art form. The casting takes tons of practice but once you get the hang of it, wow! I am wanting to learn how to tie flies. A co-worker made me some flies out of quaker parrot feathers from Quincy. They were lovely.
I rarely catch anything or have the time to do so. I think that gutting a fish alive is insanely cruel. They need to be done in humanely as possible. I cant stand to put them on a stringer either. If we do catch them we deal with them immediately.
