Yes, I sing in the car.

I sing quite a lot ~ though I have a terrible voice.

I come from a musical family and they all have great voices.

I asked my husband, the other day, if it was just me, or if it was normal to sing all the time.

That reminds me ~ after I had my first child, I developed post-natal depression. It's a strange ailment; you can actually feel fantastic at times ~ and then fall flat with a bump!

One day I was taking the baby (now 22) for a walk. The sun was shining and I felt great ~ so I just started singing in the street. It felt like a tone-deaf Doris Day musical.

I did that just before my 50th birthday, when I was planning my birthday party. At some traffic lights I started singing & dancing to 'Let's Get a Party Started'. My son & his friend were in the car ~ they were helping to set up ~ and the friend now calls me the crazy woman.

On another board which is new to me, I am confronted with a type of humor which I'm familiar with, but which - at best - I find mildly amusing and - at worst - I find bothersome.

I see no section in the Parakeets section for "less than serious discussion and/or debate" so I'm putting this topic in the form of a question of the day (and had thought of making it a game in the sense of one posts and responds).

I like humor which is based on association and allusions (puns, or alluding to people or events or whatever - kind of a trivia thing, or playing on words and their different meanings or variations of meanings, or deliberately going with wrong words, or... anything crazy.).

The "who's on first" I find uproarious. Yet, I confess, when I found out that Lou Costello was actually mean and spiteful, I can't seem to find Abbott and Costello quite as funny any more.

And I never cared for the 3 stooges, nor even one of them with his cigar. I just don't care for slapstick (that centers on someone being hurt or humiliated). For this reason, I hated Candid Camera, and I think there is a new TV program now which is along this theme.

I like to have sardonic humor back and forth - even mild insults that are understood as not attacking the other person, but I don't like humor which has at its base overt insult, or disrespect.

What do you find funny?

Well, I'm with you about puns, association, word play. Richard Lederer's books (Anguished English & the rest) [ http://www.verbivore.com/ ] are a scream -- misplaced modifiers, hilarious vocabulary errors, etc. from actual headlines, church bulletins, student papers, etc.

Then there's absurdist humor, like Monty Python.

Lately I find Lewis Black's "raging/ranting" humor right-on http://www.lewisblack.com/ --- he skewers political and cultural madness!

I don't like slapstick comedy, never been a 3 Stooges fan. I have no idea how to categorize my humor. I can certainly name the comedians I enjoy.

I don't know Bobby Slayton, Lewis Black, or Larry David. And I detest Don Rickles' humor.

Goes to show that none of us are alike, huh?

I definitely love Robin Williams, and I like Steve Martin in quite a lot of his work (some more than others).

The slapstick that I DO like (if it is indeed slapstick) is Lucy (especially the vitamin thing, and the wine press thing). And Carol Burnett (and the team that she had).

Newhart didn't appeal to me, but I liked Jonathan Winters.

I don't get to watch Saturday Night Live too much now, so I'm not really up on current comedy.

OMG, there are so many crazy I Love Lucy episodes.
She was brilliant and quite the business woman.
Larry David was the creator of Seinfeld. Offbeat humor for sure.

I forgot about Carol Burnett, and Tracy Ullman
The funniest Carol Burneet skit was with her and Harvey Korman when they did a takeoff of Gone with the Wind.

I'm trying to think of the other funny guy on the Carol Burnett show.

Which causes me to remember Red Skelton.

And I loved the Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour, before SNL.

And I love Tina Fey.
