I have, right now, five other forums that I go to, but one is for a very, very short time. And one is new, so I'm spending a little more time there. Each has a little different "feel."
Hard to find one board that appeals to all you desire.

Until lately, I check back on this forum all day long. The others are just once a day kind of things, except for the new one, which is now becoming kind of an alternate for this one.
Lately, I haven't felt like I could be myself here.

I respect the rules of this website, and definitely enjoy myself here, but you definitely have to be more aware of what you're writing for fear of offending someone or simply saying the wrong thing. The other site that Carl is referring to was designed in a way that people can speak more openly without fear of stepping on someone's toes. However, the people on that site are very caustic and at times hurtful. For me, both sites are a lot of fun and quite challenging. I feel very displaced here since I lost my bird. I feel that I can't contribute anymore. Maybe, that's the reason I sought out other forums.

My husband occasionally goes on a motorcycling forum that has different sections for different levels and types of discussion; one is "anything goes" for jokes, obnoxiousness, sarcasm, etc.
I guess the idea is that if you don't like that "room" you can go to the other, calmer rooms, and "forewarned is forearmed." It's interesting...
I don't mind the rules here about vulgar language, and it's good practice for my brain to rapidly substitute clean words!

I definitely like the rules here regarding vulgarity, afterall there are younger adults on this site. I'm sorry Paula, I still feel a little lost here at times.

Wellllll -- there's always the "Off-Topic" section, where you can bring up any old thing you want, and get people talking about something YOU find interesting. And you better know that lots of us will jump right in and chit-chat with you!

Four of the five boards that I check on daily relate to the autoimmune disorder that my wife has - ITP. At first she went to one for information and support, and then I began to post - in support of her and others, and then I learned that I liked the social aspect of discussion boards. And I felt that I liked cheering folks up. Once in a while, I needed cheering up.
Until then, I had never been on any discussion board, and didn't even like chatting. Still don't like chatting.
