after FINALLY deciding to watch the video, it took a very long time to come up with a reply. it most definitly was an extremely disturbing piece of footage. it is hard to put into context, especially when one thinks of the immense scale that this occurring on,every day, with so many kinds of animals. we have seafood, molluscs and fish on that list as well. inconcieveable ammounts of flesh runs through the system even as we sit here debting this thread. animal cruelty... i can not abide, though some "practices" are a nesessary evil. PETA is a group that seriously "fights for those who cannot speak" yes, but it is also a group that will seriously skew "reality",(no second thoughts) if warrented for their own concern. i did read the response from mc donald's and due to PETA'S own video, can see that they are being as truthfull as they can be. has anyone been on a farm during the spring castrations of the bull calves to become the steer that enter our human food chain? seen the slaughter of sheep, chickens or pigs that are butchered by the private sector for their own use? have been sport fishing and enjoyed a good shore lunch? have been in a boat as lobster traps have been hauled in? have been told to go out to the coop holding the laying hens, and get some fresh eggs? this is what came to me... does anyone know what happens when you stuff your hand under a brooding hen? they get really pxxxxx! their beaks are hard, sharp and strong. along with their claws and wings. (i always dreaded that job but was also proud. it meant i was trusted to treat the hens right) how many of you have had to pick up an untrained keet? does it just instantly "go limp"? not that i have seen or felt! have you ever held a live, scrapping chicken, turkey, goose? i know one thing for sure, no bird or any other animal is just let it'self get manhandeled, flipped upside down and just decides to hang there quietly! i believe that those animals in the video,WERE stunned first (otherwise, there would have been nothing visable but white feathers)and dealt with swiftly. puppy, kitten and bird mills, animals jammed, fully concious into disgusting conditions during which they are efectively ... bred to death. bull fights...drawn out as long as possible. dog fighting rings, cock fighting rings, purposely inflicting continous pain, both in "training" and in the terrible injuries recieved from those fights. (most often not treated) these to me are the real acts of animal cruelty, the horrors comitted knowing fully what is being done. the animals in these circumstance endure FAR MORE pain and sufferig for a FAR LONGER period of time. PETA was caught, earlier this year, staging a protest over the death of some wild game, caused by "big enterprise". when discovered, (thankfully before they could finish the job)they were in the process of dismantling a unit that played part of what killed the wild animals. if they had succeeded, they could have killed dozens of people AND contaminated a gigantic ammount of pristine land supporting a huge ammount of wild life, including a large population of the ones that they were "defending" in the first place. does that make sense to anyone else? doesn't to me. mass production is the way of the world. unfortunatly so is this mass cruelty and stupidity. i think the things that PETA and all of us, should be concentrating on, are the things being done with cruelty, pure wickedness and are totally unessessary... rather than the things that are actually... more humane, unavoidable and vitally required by all of us. thank you.
