I don't think I had a father / daughter dance at my wedding.
I should have.
Yeah, I just had to have one. I grew up hating my dad, and my relationship with Steve had sparked a much needed all out argument with me and dad that brought us closer than I never thought was possible. =) It's lovely looking back in hindsight, although the argument in itself was terrible, absolutely the worst thing ever, we now hug each other, say we love each other on the phone, and have the best understanding daddy-daughter relationship I never thought could happen between us.
When I was little little I was always a daddy's girl though, so this song had to be played, and we had to dance together before I got to Steve. It bridged the gap between all those years of fighting and hating, right to that little girl who loved her daddy.
Strange you don't have that tradition? I always thought it was a need-to-do thing! My mom told me "You HAVE to dance with your father first."
But back to best songs. I think "Land of Confusion" by Phil Collins is a great all around song. I like Distrubed's depiction too:
