I need help today if it is at all possible. I am going camping and am taking BooBoo with me because I don't trust anyone that is available to bird sit. It is a 2 and half hour drive. I know to cover her cage so not to freak her out. Is this ok to take her? Any suggestions for meeh?

I have a few other questions.. I bought broccoli and baby food. I know the broccoli I should only leave in for about 2 hours but the baby food... how long can I keep it in the cage? How should I present it? It a really small dish. I have been using a 4 inch by 4 inch round dish. Some poeple have said they have had suspended the food in the air... How can I do this?

Also she has began to bite. She seems to have gotten more scared of me as time has gone on. I let her bite me to show her that it will not scare me away and I say no bite in a stren but calm manner. I just don't know if that is the correct way to handle it and is this a faze?

I read her stories and I been working on her perching but I realized that I haven't been working the right way with training after reading posts in the "what time do you train thread".... If anyone has any suggestions to me to help me train her I would greatly appreciate it because I can tell that she is SUPER bored!!!! BUT is too terrified by us to enjoy when we play or train with her.

My suggestion is only OMGosh do not take her! This is outdoor, enviroment. Imagine what she could get, what bad things can happen! She is not trained and she coudl get scared, there are icky things that will crawl on her cage (icky things in the woods are worse then icky things in the home) She will be in the front of the enviroment with drafts and what not. What about changing her water and food. I would be horrified if i let my pet bird get out on a trip.

How long is your camping trip? there are many other decisions to avoid this. You can always leave loads of food, loads of water and have your parents/ friends step in to her area when they can. Put some favorite toys up, some extra treats that will not go icky too quick. Put on the tv, and again ask ANYONE to come in and talk to her as much as possible. ALSO put a a reminder sign! "i am a baby please do not poke at me." for those who you ask to sit her

There are some people who took their keets camping. They had a recreational vehicle and they left her in there, but with the door open and the window open so she/he could see out and see them and the window view.

Maybe they will see your post and give you some more advise.

I had to be gone one time for 5 days, (to have surgery). I got someone to take Merlin, someone to feed the cats but could not find someone to take birds. So I had someone come in once a day to feed, change water, clean up cage, etc. It worked fine. I'm sure they were lonesome, but it couldn't be helped. I just told them to leave the cage uncovered since I could not get someone to come twice a day to cover/uncover cage.

When the member was posting about this, all this was discussed, so maybe someone else will remember and tell you! Good luck.

Oh yeah a RV is like another home for some. When i hear camping i think of tent, campfire..boiling drinking water...etc

My camping is the beside water, no toilet...or rv. So thats what i thought of! BUT if you have a rv it would not be as bad as my OMGosh post suggests

Thank you I guess maybe I will leave her here... I am just worried because I have been changing her food twice a day and she hasn't started eating veggies yet.... I am leaving today and coming home saturday. We are going in a truck that coverts into a sleeping space so she wouldn't be outside.. I just don't want her to starve... Are you camping in a tent or in a camper? I haven't gone camping in a long time but i remember how hot and stuffy a tent can get, so that might not be a good idea. Even if you put her cage outside the tent during the day it could still get pretty darn hot and then you'd have to worry about bugs and of course hawks etc that could spot her. A bug net over her cage would help as far as bugs but...

No swinging toys in cage while traveling. Secure food and water dishes(probably silo type/water bottle would be best. Make sure you secure any cage doors with something to be on the safe side and also make sure cage is put together really good so it doesn't come apart anywhere by accident.
You can hang broccoli from a string(i use hemp or you can use 100%cotton butchers string) I put the string thru a straw cut to the length needed so bird can't get caught in it. Or you can wedge broccoli between cage bars. Heck you could do it both ways to see what she likes I leave broccoli in for 4-5 hrs sometimes. Maybe I shouldn't?? Does anyone know ? I don't know how long you can leave baby food in-mine never liked it. But try putting a little in the dish and sprinkle seeds on top. I would let her see you sprinkle the seeds and say mmmmmm and stuff LOL
The biting? She probably just got up the courage to test you. Just keep doin what you're doin and hopefully it will be a quick phase.
IDK what you mean by realizing you haven't been training the right way? All I can say is it takes lots and lots of patience and consistency

Trust me..a few more days without eating veggies isn't going to hurt her.

Boo will be fine...and will not at all miss the veggies!

I have left Em for weekends on occasion and for longer trips I have a pet sitter. She's wonderful! Comes in as often as I request...I just do once a day. $15 a visit, it is so worth it, she also brings in mail, switches lights and even brings milk for the fridg for us the last day!

I used to have a neighbor who would do it but it got to difficult with schedules and all.

Have a great trip and interview petsitters when you get back.

Thank you everyone. She seems to be fine!! and acually everyone.... I THINK I GOT A TALKER!!!!!!!! It sounds like she is trying really hard to change her sounds to the kiss kiss sound I say to her all the time! lol I watched u tube and it kind of sounds like she is sounding like the talking birds that are talking, you know the talking of words but it is kind of hard to understand because it is blended in with the chirpping. I am just excited about it!!! She seems to be ok from us leaving because she has been talking ALL DAY!! I love it!! Although I do think think she was a little upset because she did the loudest budgie scream for a good couple of minutes! LOL I told me boyfriend, wow she is NOT happy she was stuck in the cage and is giving us a piece of her mind!! hehee so funny!!

She ate ALL her millet too! lol I don't know if it is because I haven't seen her in a few days or if her has gotten a little heavy due to the millet!!! I have taken it away and am trying the baby food and broccili. I really hope this works as she has only eaten seed and millet so far.

Also I have a concern, it has been two weeks since I got her out of the bin o birds. The man who helped us was VERY unhappy!! He wanted us to pick and get the heck out of there... so my concern is that he clipped her wings too much or wrong... because she can hardly fly at all. Like just inches high and long. Does anyone have any info or suggestions? THANKS!!!
