I just meant that these stores depend on consumers seeing a nice presentation inside the store and thinking, well it isnt that bad. Turnign a blind eye to the problem...That is part of what perpetuates the problem.

A store itself may be very clean and take good care of the animals, but the breeders that Petsmart gets its animals from are, if what the videos show is true, cruel and inhumane. When you buy supplies from Petsmart you are supporting them, and they use their money to buy from these places. When you buy an animal from Petsmart, it means that another one will be bred in inhumane conditions to take its place.
Then again, we can't just leave the animals there. When you buy them and take them to a good home, you are saving them from going to an awful home and, in some cases, from living in poor conditions in the pet store.
The only solution is for these breeders to be shut down and replaced by GOOD ones. Besides trying to make that happen, I guess the best we ourselves can do is to not buy supplies from Petsmart... they make more money from supplies than from animals anyways. I bought Beaker from Petsmart but I never buy supplies from them, or any petstore, I just get them online.

You have all brought up good points. Some I had thought of, some I had not. I don't necessarily disagree with all that has been said, but, I do wonder one thing. When were these videos and reports made? Is there ANY possibility that PetSmart has started to "clean up" their act? Even if it was a legally FORCED clean up???

from my own experience of working in these facilities. They likely just relocated, or learned to hide things better.

My issue with Petsmart is how they treat the hermit crabs. There are 4 or 5 stores within 15 minutes of me and they are all the same because they are just following corporate policy. Unfortunately, the policy is horrible.
On the other hand, Petco has pretty good corporate policies on hermit crabs. The stores are supposed to monitor humidity, give both fresh and ocean water, give fresh foods, etc. There are 3 Petcos withing 15 minutes of me and the hermit crabs are pretty good.
I could go to another area and the local Petco may be bad. Petsmart's hermit crab policies makes it highly unlikely that I will ever find a good one so I won't consider that.
But with chains, an individual store being good or bad often depends on the manager and just how much they care.
