Barbara, I totally agree. I trust my kids, but they are kids, and not always capapble of seeing the long range consequences of their choices.
When they are teens, they better believe that I will be periodically checking up on their friends, locations, computer activities, posessions, etc. It is my job to make sure that they are safe. If this compromises their privacy on occasion, too bad.
I'm not an authoritarian, but I know from my own experiences growing up that the kids whose parents gave them laisse-faire were the ones who tended to find themselves in more trouble than those who were more closely supervised.

first of all ... this is not the issue, and again no one is saying you cant wear such shirts we are however saying that a CHILD can not wear such shirts in a public school ... that is a palce where ALL KIDS need to be EQUAL and EVEN so that true learning can take place.
now lets speak of your, for lack of better words, prejudiced statement at the beginning.
if you want to do the math, and trust me I have, way more muslims have died at the hands of christians in the last 8 yrs than christians have died at the hands of muslims in the last 50 yrs.
and if you want to really do the math and go back to the start of islam the numbers get even more staggering, so if one religion is guilty of slaughtering and torturing the other im sorry to say christianity would not win that bet.
but again this is not the topic nor is it the issue.
in the united states you will never ever see a muslim wearing such a tshirt slamming another religion. why? because that would be against OUR OWN religion, first of all we believe everything christianity and judaism believes except jesus being a diety, so how could slam it? second we would never dare to be so bold and brazen in our own country, yes we are americans too, to practice such freedom of speech. because if we did we would be arrested and tortured and you can be sure of that ... so who is doing the torturing now? who has rights now?
this is not about which religion is better or more entitled its about CHILDREN being used as pawns in their parents racist ideals.
the school sent the kids home, because the shirts were offensive and disruptive to the learning process and against school dress code and that is perfectly legal and acceptable.
