Thank you.

We miss them a lot.

I especially miss the one who just died, because, whenever I sat at the computer, like this, she would curl up on the desk in front of me. Our study isn't in the main part of our house, so she would keep me company, until I went in, and then go in with me.

PDM, your new avatar pic is adorable. Is that you with the kitty? It's a charming tribute to beloved cats.

Me with my first kitten ~ Fluff. smile
Sadly, Fluff, too was killed by a car, the week I started school in 1961.
This picture was taken about a year before.

My dad feels the same way about cats but we have a scaredy cat and he is afraid of outside but loves to watch out the window. We have lost many cats 2 of which were kittens...

Well, we are reconsidering.
Our cat was pretty much a stay-at-home ~ it was pure chance that she happened to venture out when a joyrider was entering our lane. My son had a friend who has kittens which need a home, so we'll see.
Maybe ...
I do miss ours.

Go for it girl - you won't be sorry. I have always had a cat, unfortunately that also means I have lost lots of cats, but it is always worth it. I can't imagine my life without a cat in it.

Thanks BLR ~ it's the guilt, as well as the loss, which feels so horrible. I don't want to have beautiful kittens, just to put them in danger. But, cats are roamers and, in this country, they are allowed their freedom.

We tried hard to keep ours in, or close to home, as much as possible ~ and succeeeded mostly ~ but accidents happen ~ and I am still convinced that the first one was stolen, because of her beautiful and unusual coat.

PDM - I have always gotten female kittens when I got one on purpose because I thought they made better pets. Well so far in my life when I became staff (dogs have owners, cats have staff) for a male cat it has turned out that the males that I have had have by far been the best pets. And as unlikely as it sounds, if you get them nutered early on they do not roam as much as spayed females.

Every cat that I have had that allows kids to maul them and dress them in doll clothes, and push them around in baby carriages have been males. One was even an intact male.

I say this because you might find the same thing if you get a male and have him nutered early on.

I had two female bobtails. One got hit by a car, because she did not stay at home. She was here all the time, but had to go exploring.

I also have a ferrel male, that was nutered early on and you would think he is a dog. Always on the porch if he is not in the house. Comes when he is called (of course he is never far).

just some random thoughts.

good luck - I still say get a kitten - you will never be sorry. Of course there will always be grief when you loose one, but never sorry.

Sorry to hear about your cats. If I were you I would get another cat. My russian teacher had a wild cat that her daughter loved very. They had to put her to sleep. For a long time the daughter did not want another cat. Eventually they got a kitten Lola and they love her so much. You won't regret getting another kitty. Of course the kitty will never replace your cats, but the new cat will fill the void.
