And what's so silly about people worrying about people being "mixed race" is that if the Black people's ancestors have been in the USA for many generations, that it is highly likely that they have Caucasian members in their family tree, no matter what they look like on the outside.

I live on the East coast of the USA and there are so many people here in mixed marriages that I don't give it a thought. They're just people. You know?

My best friend is Korean and her husband is Caucasian. She says that she finds census and medical forms frustrating because they don't list an option for mixed races. Her kids look Korean, but they have different risk factors for illnesses, etc, because their father isn't Korean.

any arriage or wedding ceremony that is not backed up by a legal marriage lisence from the state they live in is not a legally binding marriage in the usa.

for example .. in islam we get married in the mosque, an dit has its own rules and regulations, it is not a legally binding marriage enless a marriage lisence is issued.

this is why it is common for people to get married in churches or seaside weddings and find out they are not actually married to each other because no lisence was issued.

also it works for destination weddings as well ... the usa does not accept marriages from other countries, except for a few countries, so you could go get married in italy and still unmarried in america.

enless you are citizens of italy then you move to america, your marriage is acknowledged but you still may have to file paperwork.



there are many many muslims couples in the usa that are not married legally according to american law as they only had a ceremony in the mosque and if something were to go wrong neither would have any protection under said laws, many people in other religions do the same.

I haven't read all the posts so forgive me if this has been said but. If this man is "only thinking of the children" then I wonder.. has he ever married a couple who has divorced? A couple who have abused or neglected their child? A couple who abused or neglected each other? He does not care about these people, or their future children (SHOULD they even choose to have any!) he probably just wants publicity or something. He should lose his job, this is rediculous.

I have to honestly say I think this man is straight up lying. What it sounds like to me is the perfect cover up for racism, "concern" about the children. He's a racist, point blank, and it sickens me that he's trying to cover it up.

But if marriage is a legal institution, then a simple religious ceremony won't give it legal status. That makes sense to me.

in the uk, church of england, church of wales, roman catholic, non conformist, quaker, jewish, muslim, hindhu, and sikh marriages are all accorded legal status. its a simple matter of legislating to give the respective religious ceremonies an equal legal status to civil ceremonies, and making the resulting marriages fall under the same legal definitions as civil marriages. of course they can all be dissolved by a civil divorce, as it should be in a secular state.

i am married under the irish civil registration act - this has legal status in the uk, and it would regardless of where i had chosen to marry. the us system not recognising marriages solemnised in mosques looks like a clear choice to me.

In the US to make the marriage legal you must get a marriage liscence and have the ceremony performed by someone legally authorized to perform it and then have them sign the document. most religious clergy are authorized and I suspect many Muslim clerics are also authorized, the problem arises when the couple only have a religious service without doing the legally required papperwork, then it is not legally recognized
