Aww poor Huey. I'm awful glad to hear she seems to be doing better this morning. Kudos to you for getting her to a vet promptly.

Never thought of getting a humidity guage. Thanks for the tip Lisa. But like Huey asked-what level should the humidity be?

A good range for a parakeet's humidity level is between 60% and 70% humidity. I'm not sure that I have that issue covered in my parakeet pages, so I'll make a note to go add that! Thank you for letting me know I need to work on that topic.

We ran by Walmart tonight and I got their standard temperature / humidity gauge to test out for you guys. It was $8 I think for both a temperature and humidity reading, both digital. I'm not sure if $8 is too much for your budget, but it might be very well worth saving up for. Or ask for it for the keet's holiday present!

It's really helpful for the humans, never mind the keets Humans need to be healthy too!

That is such wonderful news! Hopefully it was just dry skin and now that humidity levels are evening out, everything will be fine.

I know where I am that we have been running humidifiers for several weeks now. As soon as late autumn arrives the air gets REALLY dry to the point of causing skin and nose problems for both the humans and the pets. Maybe that is what happened there too!

Thanks for checking in: Huey is doing well. Her nostrils (nares)are clearing up from the scratching and rubbing against the perches. She finally took a bath yesterday which cleaned off the old blood and the medicine mishaps.

She lost some weight (she was a bit pudgie) which made her feel good. But now that she has free time with her man! He keeps feeding her and I think the weight is coming back. Does anybody else have that problem? Budgies over feeding each other???

You might check the ingrediance on the wheat toast and see how much sugar and fat is in it. I would think it would be pretty hard to keep mates from feeding each other.
