I had to take Ms. Huey to the vet today! This morning when I uncovered her she had a tiny bit of blood coming from her nares. I assumed maybe dry heat air and she scratched. I took her out and put a warm compress on it and it was fine.

I came home this afternoon and it was much worse. Blood above the cere and all over the nares. Called the vet immediately and went right away.

She wasn't sure what could have caused it. But as she was checking her over she noticed the area above the vent sort of stomache the skin was yellow! Never noticed that. Could be liver disease but she is a little too young to think that. Huey is 1.5 years old. Her breathing was off as well.

Huey was a great. Good little girl. I feel bad for her.

She put her on a breathing treatment. Which had medicine as well for few minutes. I also have to give her Baytrill 10 days.

Just an update! Thanks for listening.

That is so good of you to take the keet in to the vet promptly, I'm glad you were able to do that!

That is really unusual that she was bleeding heavily but they don't know why. Do you know what the humidity level of her room is?

No, but that is what I was thinking. So tonight I've tried to raise the humidity level. I don't know if this will help but I put a pot of hot water in her room to raise it.

I have a humidifier but it is a cool mist. Would that help? Any other ideas?

Humidity won't care if it is hot or cold, just that it is set. If you can afford it, I'd invest in a cheap humidifier gauge. Petco has them for $2.99, often for reptile cages. That way you can see how dry it is in the room!

I'd definitely set up the cool mist one, in the meantime!

Be cautious about putting pots of hot water near keets, if they can at all get out of the cage.

Being fluffed up can of course be a sign that they are cold, that is one basic reason they fluff up.

However, it's also a sign that a keet is not feeling well, that they are trying to hunker down and heal.

I'd start with the easy one first, do you know the temperature in the room? There are cheap $1 or $2 thermometers at most stores, it is good to keep one near the keet cage (along with a humidity member) and that way you always know the two important values for your keet's environment. Or can you make a rough guess if it's cool or warm in there?
