We have two cats and primarily use the crystal litter now. We're very impressed at how it sucks up liquids and eliminates the odor. You only have to scoop out the solids which is fairly easy. The only problem is that it tracks around the house.

What do other people use for cat litter, who have cats?

I use the crystal litter also and have the same problem. Right now it's ok, because I'm having to vacuume very day anyway, since we have so many fleas at this time. I do like the crystal litter. It's the best one I've found that I can afford, for exactly what you said. I'm not sure I'm going to continue using it though. I don't like my dog to have to walk in it.

Right now we have 2 litter boxes in the basement and one in the downstairs bathroom. We have little carpet ramps in front of the upstairs litter box to try to get the cats to "clean their feet" as they leave the room. Maybe we need to carpet that entire room ...

I have been thinking about kitty litter lately also. I have this clumping stuff that Sauron kicks everywhere, even though the pan has deep walls. I think he just enjoys doing it. I have been told to try a covered pan or a 'welcome mat' to help with the litter tracking.

I really don't like the clay stuff. It's smelly, and the dust gets up my nose when i clean the pan. That can't be healthy.

I want to try crystals but i don't have much money. Do they cost a lot more?

On one hand I believe they do cost more - on the other hand in my experience they last longer. So it might even end up being a wash in terms of expense.

No, that's the beauty of it. The liquids just get *absorbed*. The water part evaporates out, the smelly part stays trapped in the crystal and is now odorless. The only thing you scoop is the poops which dry naturally and are removed easily.

Someone on Facebook said they love the pine "logs". We really wanted to use those, they seem like a perfect, ecologically sound solution. However, our cats HATED them and refused to use them. Has anyone else found success with these?

We use the friskies and the orange bark one. Luckily he does most of his bussiness outside so I don't have to clean the box.

My cats use a cat door - works great, never have to clean a litter box.

BLR - we can't let our cats outside here, it's rural and they would be eaten by something fairly quickly. So we need to stay with indoor options.

Right, my cat is an indoor cat. He wouldn't even go outside if every window and door where left wide open. If I lived in one place I'd prefer him doing his business outside, for sure. But in a traveling RV situation, I would be afraid to lose him. So it is a good think he is afraid of going outside, in my case!

That's very true, Jilly - with a normal house a cat has a chance of finding her way home. With an RV that might be really tricky!
