First time bird owner here. Went to the pet store for a goldfish but saw this little beauty and fell in love. Her name is Cammy. I'm not sure how old she is, but I think she is still a baby. Had her about 4 days. She is still very skittish and doesn't chirp much, but hopefully she will start soon. She is very fond of "Single Ladies" by Beyonce LoL How long does it usually take for them to chirp and sing on a regular basis?

as soon as they become familar with their surroundings and their new family schedules and if u dont rush them..you didnt say what kind of bird is it a keet...cuz a keet u can tell if its a baby if the stripes on the head extend down to the cere(nostrils) as they age and go thru moulting (changing their feather clothes) those lines will be replaced with solid white or yellow etc. Enjoy and give your little one time..i too even after been around birds for years MANY YEARS AGO ..needed to be reminded and reschooled with just this sort of info..i forgot all the little things ..remember the bigger things but forgot the lil stuff ..thats to some great folks in here ..they kindly reminded me of what it was like waaaaaaay back and with the first little birdies i ever owned...keets.

Hi Tragic, welcome smile
What a lil cutie pie you have there! I must say it looks NOTHING like a goldfish! LOL I think you made the right choice smile haha
Like illusive said, give your new friend a few days to get used to his new home and surroundings. S/He'll be chirping in no time. First s/he has to feel safe smile
Talk to him softly lots and lots, and move slowly around him. While changing food/water talk to him and tell him what you are doing.
Playing music is good..they really enjoy music, and after a while you will get to know what kinds of music s/he likes best.
She really is a little doll smile Congrats!

Welcome to the forum TragicHero.

Congratulations on your little beauty. Some of the things you can do to help her adjust to her new digs:

Cover three sides and the top of the cage. That way she can feel safer and only has to worry about one side. As she gets used to her surroundings you can uncover her whole cage.

Play music for her or leave the TV on for her. Since silence in their world means there is a predator near by, sounds will reassure her.

Talk softly to her so she can get used to your voice and your face. Don’t be surprised in no time your will be asking yourself why did I worry about her making noise – she will.

Thanks for the advice, guys smile I took your advice and covered 3 sides up, she seems to like that. She seems to be okay with my face but is still afraid of my hands, haha... I am enjoying her very much. My friend told me that they enjoy water so I have been using a spray bottle to mist her every once in a while...is that a good idea, with her not being adjusted to everything yet?

If she seems to be enjoying it, go for it. If it upsets her wait until she is a little more settled. They do like to be misted, just make sure the water is warm, and the room is not cold.

Welcome to the forum! smile I love your “goldfish”. . . it looks shockingly like a budgie! wink

Yeah, I agree with what BLR had to say about misting. Although at this point I would guess it could be too early. You’ll have to be the judge. smile

One more thing to consider is rather than directly spraying your goldfish, spray it above him/her & let the mist drift down like a “natural drizzle.”
grin
