Training birds is often hot and cold for a while, as the keets get more comfortable with you and overcome their nervousness. The key is to be consistent, and to be patient. At least twice a day calmly approach them. Don't back away if they retreat, because you are teaching them that they can control you. You need to maintain the lead keet position, and build that trust.

I have always had multiple keets, and you can definitely train them!

JDM - I strongly recommend you get a book on training Lovebirds. I am sure they are available at pet stores. This may help you understand you birds better.

Please remember that the advice here will probably be about parakeets because that is the assumption when you say "my birds."

I have a question similar to the one started here...I recently got 2 parakeets, male and female and for the first day I left them alone. And slowly the female(white) will let me gently pet on her til the blue(male) keet starts freaking out and then she runs. I want to start training them but hes kind of putting a stop to it. I can tell if I didn't have him she would be alot easier to train. I'd like to know how to train both of them if possible or just work on one at a time? Thanks!

Welcom to the forum.

It would be easier if you work with one at a time.

thats what I thought...I have a another cage thats never been used. Should I separate them or just try from the same cage...I noticed she's easier to work with as long as he stays calm but when he starts flying around she shys away.

***UPDATE*** I found some unused chopsticks and figured I try that since they were already use to my hand in the cage. Well it worked! It took a few nudges but Lady jumped on and let me move her around the cage but I didn't take her near the door and placed her onto another perch and Tramp hopped right on, stayed up for a few seconds and hopped right back off and flew to the other side of the cage. Atleast he's letting me near him with SOMETHING lol. I'm gonna try it again later, maybe a couple more time and starting tomorrow inch my finger towards the edge of the chopstick.
