i have some questions about breeding and some other things about budgies and things i can and cant do

1- does the male fertilize the eggs when he mates with the female or does she lay it and he fertilizes the eggs wen he sits on them? ive herad both and i think its the first one but not 100% sure

2- Can you take any budgies in breeding mode that is mature enough to breed and put a male in with a female and switch her with other ones to try to see which one if any he will pair up with?

3-what is the average amount of time it takes to see if they r paired?

4- is there any other breeding behavior but: head bobbing, singing, clicking, beak tapping, tapping on wood, head sweeping? thats all i kno of and have seen so if thre is more please tell me

5- duchess layed another egg yesterday and kado was taken out of the cage less than 10 days before yesterday and i movedhim becuase duchess was biting him an trying to get him away becuase he wanted to breed and now i think they did and i think they are going to be fertile, but i dont want her to raise another clutch but i dont want to throw the eggs away so i switch zettes with duchess' to see if she can raise them, but the thing is do i want to risk zette not taking care of them and them dying and the chance of them being killed when i put duchess back in the big cage which is where zette's nest box is and i think duchess might kill them since she is dominant female, or should i throw them away and let another pair (bakari and starstrukk) try to nest when duchess and her babies r done with that cage, and them them raise a clutch instead of more babie right away before i have a chance to sell the ones from this clutch, and now i am 100% sure bakari and starstrukk are a pair because they have all thebeeding behavior signs and she lets him be around her and she chases kado away and more like that. P.S- this is my most important ? and i need it answered soon please

I just want to check first that you've worked with a vet with these keets and have had them checked out? I'm a little concerned with some of the questions that you haven't seen a vet yet, and that's really the important first step. Just like human mothers go for health checkups before they try to get pregnant.

Male parakeets have sex organs just like human males do. So when parakeets have sex, the male parakeet gets on top of the female parakeet and inserts his sex organ, just like humans do. That is how the male parakeet's sperm gets into the female parakeet's body and then she creates a fertilized egg.

I cover that all here -

but please make sure you've visited a vet!

k ya thats wut i thought ive seen mine mate btw they are all mature, the ones i want to breed ive read al the risks and procedures, i am a bird fanatic and i kno about everything there is to kno about budgie care and health even though im thirteen, i know things about birds from other countries that my science teacher and her husband dont kno (they are good friends of ours and also bird ppl) i can name almost every bird in north america, and i knew almost 50 more species than my science teachers husbands high school class that have been learning about birds for 4 ormore years ( this is all just to assure you i take aazing care of my birds and have read about almost everything) and there is no avian vet any where even close to here ilive in a small town and im one of the only 2'3 ppl that have budgies and they r all perfectly healthy from what i have studied up on about health and what r good health signs and they have all of them like clear bright eyes, they sing A LOT the are very active they are houses very well they have plenty of room and if they werent healthy im pretty sur ethey wudnt lay eggs ive read that they have a good diet and healthy babies and they get alot of attention i assure you they are healthy

Well garrett, as much as I've enjoyed your birds and the babies, I REALLY think you should try to STOP them from breeding for a while. Having clutch after clutch is SO not good for your females' health. It depletes it substantially.
I don't think you should take eggs/babies away from Duchess because she might lay more to replace them.
Give them all a break for a while. Sounds like you have enough babies on your hands..take time to find them good homes before you bring any more in to the picture.
It's really awesome that you have such a strong interest in birds and learn all you can. Sounds like you love ur birds and take good care of them. Just let up on the breeding. Dang, I'm a mom and I know I wouldn't want to have that many dang kids! PHEW talk about taking a toll on a body! LOL

ya im not letting duchess breed again til next year if at all she started laying a clutch and i threw them all away and zette is done laying so i threw those away and closed up the nest box and im going to put bakari and starstrukk in the breeding cage when im SURE duchess is done and my science teacher is gonna take the rest of the babies for me so i will have 5 less birds....YAY!.. and if starstrukk and bakari breed i will sell those too so either way i will make sure never to keep more than 10 or 12 birds

If you just throw away their eggs don't they just lay more to replace them? Do you replace eggs with fake eggs?
By any chance are you thinking of becoming an avian vet some day? Sounds like it would be right up your alley smile
Take good care of you flock garrett. Every time you post you have my head spinning trying to keep up with who's who. LOL
I do love all your birds..they are all so pretty smile Are they all hand tamed?

ya if u throw em away they normally lay til the clutch is done and i thing it is so then im going to move her into the other cage where the nest box is blocked off so she wont lay any more. and ive looked everywhere for fake eggs but i can only find them on petstore sites and i cant get anything for my birds unless i buy it myself besides food. and i probably wont become an avian vet but hopefully become a liscensed breeder of budgies and finches and parrots and other parakeets and i will have to get a big shes put flooring in it insulate and heat it then build big cages for flocks and certain breeding cages, i really hope that happens. but im also into fishing and i love that too and it wud take alot to be able to pay for both of those things, so i hope i get a good job. and none of them are hand tamed if i put my hand in they just jump on sit there for a couple seconds and jump off
