Our parakeet had lost its tail feathers in a home accident (not involving other animals) - we didn't know exactly how it happened, but there was no blood, skin cuts or other injuries involved, so we just expected that the feathers would grow back and everything would be OK. The feathers grew back little by little, but the parakeet died some months after the incident (I think it was 4-6 months after).
I'm wondering weather the accident causing the feather loss could have been the cause of death, or if the lack of feathers itself could have been the cause. I'd like to know if that could have been the possible cause of death.
They say parakeets are fragile to cold and drafts, so I'm assuming it was probably even more fragile with the naked bottom, even though it was ususally always in a warm place. But could it have been something else? And wouldn't death occur earlier if the lack of feathers were the problem? - because most of the feathers had grown back when it had died.
Anyway I want to be more well prepared if I get another parakeet in the future, and more protective of it, because I feel somewhat guilty about what happened to the poor birdie. Any answers relating to this subject would help.
