So let me catch you up. We got this budgie 8 weeks ago. I have him/her finger trained and it will give me kisses. I bring him/her out as often as I can. I try to do breakfast/lunch/dinner where the bird sits on its playgym at the table with us. It will climb the ladder on its playgym. The bird has never shown any interest in its toys. I have gotten new/better ones that were suggested at other boards. I'm not sure of its exact age either. The bird is very nice and doing well. It sings when it hears us or when he/she is out on the playgym. I'd like to know if anyone can tell if its a boy or girl. We were thinking boy but we are unsure. Although he/she could still be a bit young to tell. I don't think its over a year yet. Thanks for your help.

Very lovely bird...an seems like your making good progress you may need to play also with its toys to show HER how to play with them and interact in this way with HER toys...

Im saying HER because to me the cere is not buldging as much from what i can see that would be otherwise noticed with a male..HER cere is flatter typical of most females..even tho the color would lead one to believe male im gonna say FEMALE even tho she is as young as she is...time of course will tell better around 9mos of age...in the meantime love ..play...and enjoy HER giggle...ooooops sorry just realized i changed out his pics so you can not see as well the white around his nares...trust me its a white ring...lol and he is male...not female ...so dont go by that theory is what im saying

Thats my guess at this time...white around the nares means nothing as some would say that means female but if you look at Cappys pic's you will see white around the nares an HE is very definetly a male

I'll definately try for a closer pic of the cere to help you all out. I know long ago I had a budgie...we thought "HE" (his name was Thomas) well years later "he" laid eggs! LOL! I might have to change my buddies name to "Sunshine" instead. Will try to post again in the morning.

I'll try to show HER the toys a bit more. I just don't want to make her scared. She is doing pretty good so far!

YOU play with the toys...when she is looking ...get her attention but dont force toys on her ...then you play with the toys make a big deal of it....the pictures you have are fine i could see fine if you get any closer the flash wont help.

Do you have just 1 budgie? I thought about adding a friend for her once she was fully tame. I read alot saying that adding another makes them not want to be with you as much.

yes i have only one as i dont want the health issues of maybe getting a female....an then there is no guarantee two birds would even like each other...and what i have now is a great little velcro bird that pouts at me if when i let him out i cant immediately sit with him and play...giggle....as soon as i do which is usually within 20 mins of when i first let him out, he will then become very animated...and a pesky lil bugger. Hi, i'm new to this but we just bought two parakeets. The guy at the store said that if the top of the beck was blue they were male if it was pinkish they were female. We bought one of each. So far the male seems to be happy with the finger training. He will already sit on my finger. The female still a little skidish. We are thinking of nameing them Dude and Diva!

well, most all...hardly any females have a bluish cere. but, i cannot tell with your keet, he/she needs to grow a little more to tell which genger it is.Males normaly have deep blue or bluish purple sometimes. females can have pink, light tan, or brown(if in mating mode). but your keet is in a pinkish color to purple. purple can mean male but pink can mean female so like i said befor i think she needs to grow a little more. Do u know what age it is? it would help

We are guessing about 7-8 months old. The only thing is i've noticed some flecks of flaky brown....just a few spots...I thought its cere was dirty...but from what i've read no matter how young the budgie...if you see any kind of brown its a girl. So i'm really leaning towards girl like the above posters. I love her no matter what...just might need to adjust her name a bit....or not....we are so used to calling her Harvey...we wanted to go with Sunshine now that its a girl...we thought it fit her well with her bright yellow
